Fishy,

You better bring the extra repair patches that came with her. It would be a horribly lonely night if she loses air.

Fish - Just to make it humorous, these are some of my fellow f/a's.

I do wish you would keep some of your comments away. I do think Ua is hurting worse than is being told. Word yesterday was that 125 csr's were laid off in Denver and 7 in San, I don't know about anywhere else.

This may be the start. With, the judge blocking jet forclosures, he can't prohibit a lessor from their property for long. With work rule changes, wage concessions. I think and have thought for a long time that the company was just riding till the end. No one, I mean NO ONE in management has tried to cut losses, except just to get by. You can't lose billions and billions of dollars continuously and survive.

If and I mean a big IF, Ua survives, they will have an incredible hole to climb out of. The company has distanced themselves with lenders, airports, employees and customers.

very well said, uafa21. It really doesn't do UA or its employees any good in the long run for them to continue to get by with artificial prices on any of the services in the market place. If the lessors, eventually they will pull their resources. If labor, they buck. If airports, they find someone else to move into their facilities.

It's interesting to watch the divergence of opinions re: cost cuts at UA appear on this forum just as it developed at US just months ago. Those who seem most willing to put up with the cost cuts are the ones who seem most unwilling to move on to other companies. In reality, UA will be back for more cuts from every sources as long as they are allowed to seek the "easy" way out - which is doing anything but fixing the business model.
Honestly, I'm not sure that any other legacy airline has got it figured out so it is hard to slight UAL for following a path that is not at all clear. Other airlines have achieved some improvements relative to UA but have problems of their own as well. What is clear is that it is not possible to continue to seek cost cuts that are below market for any group and expect them to be sustainable and part of a long-term successful enterprise.

Oil is below $43 BBL this morning which is both a bless and a curse for UAL and is expected to continue to fall. For airlines that are still trying to cut costs, decreasing oil makes obtaining concessions even harder.

Hey Fish, you can purchase patch kits at the bicycle store for $2.99  , I wouldn't want to see anything spoil your 'Big Event'. You really went out and blew $800.00 on a Tux? Must have been a rental in its previous life, or is it a 'brand new' powder blue one with a cumberbund? You're killing me dude  Hopefully your date won't smudge any of her makeup all over that baby! You could save some extra cash by using the Limo to 'fumble around' in, instead of renting out 'The Motel' The cabbie, er I mean 'the chauffeur' will probably respect you two kids' privacy  Don't forget that corsage!

All I have to say is that Fish might have gotten out before the titanic sinks. If United's employees don't smarten up, they will be first in the liquidation finish line this winter. All this talk about sticking up for US if they abrogate contracts. If you were smart, you would let them go out to help the capacity issue that does not want to go away.

Fish, enjoy rubbing it in. Try bringing some service back to the Northeast again.

fish...

You're a real class act.

Frontier certainly is one fortunate company to have someone of your caliber.

Best,
BT

Fish, you may want to consider the clear patch kit (still only $2.99!), opposed to the black one, after all, you wouldn't want 'inflatable doll beater' to show up on such a prestigious resume/public record. Frontier is well represented by 'classy' employees like yourself, that's for sure! I'm only trying to help....

The capacity issue will NOT go away with the demise of US. Perhaps temporarily there will be a slight void, but the majority of those slots and aircraft will just be picked up by either new entrants, more successful LCCs, and/or some stonger old-school airlines. In order for a true capacity effect, one would have to see the current airlines show some significant restraint throughout the industry, and we know that's not gonna happen.

The only restraint the industry knows is wages. As soon as a carrier goes out of business, that capacity 'void' is absorbed by other carriers adding planes to their inventories--as was the case with EA's and Pan Am's demise. The Industry's going to run amok until some sort of regulation is introduced. There are many advantages the newer carriers enjoy over established carriers, making the playing field somewhat biased in their favor. It used to be the other way around, but times have changed. Hopefully, the safety factor hasn't.

Alot of capacity is coming into the LCC segment of the industry regardless of whether US survives or not. If US fails, the LCC's expansion will be a bit more profitable and the legacies such as AA, CO, and DL who have heavy east coast route systems will be able to increase their efficiency drives by expanding into US markets with few new aircraft.
A US shutdown is not likely to do anything for UA. Any gain UA would have gained by the capacity reduction in a region where UA is relatively weak will be more than offset by the loss of codeshare capacity and revenue and the increased liabilities from US; I'm sure there are many award travel seats being booked on UA by US FFP members that will never be paid for if US folds.
