MCI asked,

"------ Maybe that should be an open question to this board! ------ Do you see another TWA in AA's near future? If so, how do you feel it should be handled?----- Remember! This thread does ask for a "bottom line" opinion!"

I do hope UAL & Delta merge. For one, such a merger will enable AMFA to represent more AMTs. Hopefully Delta management will govern the "new" airline and boot out the inept tools running UAL.

As for AA? Well, I do not think this merger will compell AA to merge/buy again. However, I believe there are contingent plans/options being looked at as future options if needed. I think maybe buying Alaska Airlines would be viable. But who knows? With AA getting ready to buy new aircraft another Boeing fleet airline would be a plus. Also, perhaps AA is wanting that "extention proposal" for a reason such as this topic suggests?

Hang on. The future should be fun!

Count me in Ken, I'm with you.

It WILL be interesting to see what happens.
I for one, GREATLY applaud the LONG OVERDUE start to Industry consolidation !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that AA will "stand pat" in the beginning, but if standing "pat" does not work out best for AA, then IMHO a quick glance would reveal limited options. First off, with the LONE exception of the LCC "shuttle", LCC would never be an AA option,..NEVER.

That would leave NW/AS/CO.

CO has carved out a real nice niche for itself(with delay prone EWR, being it's lone headache)
But quite honestly, I don't see CO really bringing much to the AA table(Yup, I'm aware of CO's 787 orders)

Moving on, IF AA "must make a move", and AS provided AA with the "numbers" $$$ AA needs, well so be it.

If NOT, then it would be NW, which would bring a LOT to AA.(And it would (selfishly) fulfill "my" DREAM TEAM.

If there actually is going to be any consolidation happening I see AA being the "Regulatory Reliever" like they were in 2000 with the UA/US merger, taking X amount of gates in city Y in order to alleviate anti trust concerns, that sort of thing.

I really don't think the company would be foolish enough to go out and spend a billion or three whilst crying poor mouth in labor negotiations. Then again, this is AA management we're talking about here...

I thought CO/UA was supposed to be the consolidation flavor of the month? How about AA/CO? Put the NYC area on lock down...

With CO management running the show that might be interesting.

<_< ----- Hey Bears! We hear you in surround sound! ---- But if it would happen, my question was, "How would it be handled?" Would their employees have DOH senority, sloted in, or stapled?

The question is viable for who?
I have never read much about AS financial results but I'd imagine Horizon and their Cargo ops to Alaska contribute a lot to their bottom line. If they were aquired by AA how would AA integrate that into the system and keep what was financially positive still a positive. Would Horizon go to Eagle and does AA have a cargo only division anymore? (I thought AS had some freighters and some Combi's, I read they retired the Mud Hens)

Alaska seems to do well in their niche market, west coast north/south routes along with operations into remote Alaskan towns. They do have a small fleet of four 737-400 Combi's and one dedicated 737-400F. I'm not sure how much such a small operation like that would contribute to AA. The nly international routes they have are to Mexico. IMHO I don't think it's really worth it. Bob Crandall had it right when he swore off mergers.

The Teamsters are mounting a card drive at UAL so it might not be AMFA.

"fixer",

The recent rejection of UAL, by DL(ALPA), speaks volumes IMHO, because UAL/DL would have been a good one.(Obviously for DL, a LCC/DL hook up would have been a DOG).

So I'm of the mindset NOW, that M+A's will NOT happen, and Overcapacity driven (even FURTHER)by astronomical Jet-A $$'s will be dealt with, via the "law of the Jungle".

The LONE exception very well could be UAL/LCC, with UAL aready "putting on the perfume" (To bad, that what UAL's Tilton does NOT understand, is DOUGWEISER would take "him" unshaven and unbathed)
