Plane makes safe landing with football-size hole in fuselage

It was a mistake.
PTO tried to lead his El Salvadorian crew to patch this 'thingy' but ran out of liquid steel, overdrilled the holes and put in buck rivits. Slapped on some elephant snot, repainted and 'let her fly'....
(Satire inserted here <<<---)
 xUT

I agree. Our guys here should be taking care of this. (and there's no elephant snot here!)

Our guys were sent out there from BWI. We cut out the area, including an overlap of several inches.

The NTSB took the piece with them and as of yet we don't know what happened. There was no repair in the area and no access panel, (to answer HP FA).

We had a Structures crew go up to WVA from Dal to install a perm. repair to damaged area.

I would think it would take longer than overnight to perform a NDT inspection, say Eddy Current, from the inside of the aircraft for their entire fleet. Now, if they were just looking for a hole........

This is true, but there's a lot to be said for being proactive.
