Pit Schedule - Unofficial

The $29 fare are only introductory fares on about 5% of the seats sold right now. US has already matched that and will probably continue to match those fares by SWA. What it all comes down to in the end is who offers a better product and a more convenient schedule out of PIT. SWA will only stimulate the market, which is what they historically do, but in turn could actually help US pull more traffic out of PIT in the long run, especially with lower fares and a more competitive cost structure of a LCC. After all, most of those business flights out of PIT that are doing so well were feuled by US's hub presence not local O/D traffic.

Somebody in Res correct me if I am wrong but aren't 20% of the seats discounted per flight for WN? I remember hearing that somewhere along my travels here.

For some reason I just dont' think that there is the amount of traffic between PIT and PHL that everyone seem to think.

<snip>

I'm not saying that when WN enters a market it dosen't stimulate traffic but there are only so many people that can, will and do fly between the two cities.

As others have said, perhaps the reason you (and U) don't see much traffic between PIT and PHL is because U's unrestricted one way, same-day, out and back fares have been so outrageous. $327 one way? No wonder PIT-PHL O&D is so light. At $79, you might be amazed how many people will fly between the two. Even with tax, that's under $100 each way.

Yep, the nation's 6th largest and 22d largest metro areas would never see much business traffic between them, would they? After all, those two metro areas only account for about 8.5 million people between them. Why would those two cities in the same state, no less, both being banking and financial centers, generate significant O&D traffic? Duh.

If the answers aren't obvious, you've already lost the race.

Funny thing is, at $79, WN will be printing money. At the same $79 fare, USAir will barely be breaking even.

Ever wonder why WN sells something like 35-40% of its seats at full walkup fares? Because at WN, those fares aren't outrageous, that's why.

WN did take the 2 gates at terminal D in PHL, thus giving them 6 total gates. After the PIT expansion they will have 48 flights a day for 6 gates.

I'm a US1 and your average nonfrequent flyer is going to look at cost and time and plane size too. Right now if I want to fly to DFW on US I get the EMB170.

I don't understand that one. I'll take the EMB170, especially with an assigned seat in an exit row, over WN--the 50 seat RJ is another story. Cost won't be an issue. US will cheaper almost every time. We see it in PHL. Unfortunately for US, they haven't figured out the WN pricing.

Obviously you've not had to be cramped into the EMB170 on the PIT to DFW full flight. And there is no exit row on the EMB170. Your exits are the front & rear galleys. You say cost won't be in issue, that's because US won't be making any money. I'd be curious to see how much US is making versus WN on the same routes they compete against.

If WN would fly PIT to MHT, I'd be on those flights all the time. I am headquarted in BOS. My airfares for PIT to BOS are consistently $1066.00 and it doesn't matter if I make the reservation 1 day or 4 weeks proir to my departure. My corporate travel has been forcing me to fly alternative routes to drop the airfare. Even with the US/UA codeshare the price is outrageous for this route.

I'd like to know why it's more expensive for me to fly to BOS than it is to SAN or PHX? I don't get it.

No, you surprised me. And you probably look less skanky than ol' Debbie Harry does nowadays....

I was surprised to see that SWA is raising the fares in PIT even before service starts. I know it is only $1 to $3 and I think that is okay. With fuel hedged at around 80%, SWA is still buying a lot of gas in the $55 a barrel area. Just my thoughts......

What I read said the PIT was exempt from the increase.
