[SIZE=10pt]We spent last week in Charlotte attending a one-day Special BPR Meeting followed by a three-day Regular BPR Meeting. The Special Meeting was in closed session, but we can tell you that we discussed JCBA issues and worked with the NAC and APA members. Everyone seemed to agree that it was a productive day.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]On Wednesday morning, on the first day of the Regular BPR meeting, there was a resolution passed to recall our President and Vice President. The following resolution was the final version, which was passed by a vote of 9-2, with both of us voting against the recall. Realize that until the final minutes are approved, this resolution is not official; however, this is the document that we voted on at the meeting.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]WHEREAS[/SIZE] [SIZE=10pt]President Hummel and Vice President Steve Bradford have lost the trust of the BPR,[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that[/SIZE] [SIZE=10pt]the BPR support a recall of President Hummel and Vice President Steve Bradford and direct Secretary Treasurer to ballot the membership on recalling the President and Vice President[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT[/SIZE] [SIZE=10pt]such balloting shall commence within 10 business days.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED THAT[/SIZE] [SIZE=10pt]the Secretary Treasurer will confer and coordinate any scheduling difficulties with the Board Representative for this resolution CLT Chairman Bob Frear.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]The remaining meeting business was covered in communications updates and included numerous committee reports, resolutions, proposed changes to the Constitution and debate. However, we felt no item was as significant as the one highlighted above. Please refer to the BPR Meeting Recaps from Communications for more details.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]With the POR behind us, there is still a lot of work to be done as we merge with American Airlines. Obtaining and transitioning to a new joint contract, scheduling changes, changes to policies and procedures, seniority integration, along with other changes to our jobs will consume our time. We believe these items and related topics are the things your union should be focused on now.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]Within the next few weeks you will be receiving a ballot for the recall of the President and Vice President of USAPA. Whether they remain in office or are removed is a decision that will be made by all of you, the line pilots and members of USAPA. Also in the next few weeks you will be receiving paychecks reflecting the higher 2013 pay rates, a retroactive pay check for the higher rates from February 8, 2013, and a share of the $40 million signing bonus. Your hard work and patience is finally going to literally pay off.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=10pt]USAPA’s What’s Up on the Line?: December 11, 2013[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]Q – I would like to maximize my 401(k) deduction for 2013, but how do I make sure I don’t go over the IRS limit for this year?[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]A – [/SIZE][SIZE=10pt]If you elect “100%” in the box titled: “Pre-Tax Retro + Lump Sum Payment” the Company will stop deducting from your retro/lump sum payment once you’ve reached the maximum 2013 tax-deferred limits. (2013 tax-deferred limits are: $17,500 for regular deduction plus another $5,500 for those who are age 50 or older.)[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]Q – If I have not made any tax-deferred contributions into my 401(k) account all year and I elect to contribute 100% of my special payments into my 401(k) account, will I owe any taxes on the retro/lump sum payments?[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]A – [/SIZE][SIZE=10pt]Any income deferred into your 401(k) account is still subject to Social Security and Medicare taxes, referred to as FICA (7.65%). In other words, the amounts you deposit into your 401(k) account is always a post-FICA deduction.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]In order to pay the FICA tax obligation, the Company is required to hold back a portion of your check.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]The amount held back to pay for the FICA tax is now considered taxable income by the IRS, and therefore is subject to federal, state and local income taxes.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]Therefore, an additional amount will be held in order to pay your federal, state and local income tax obligation. This additional income is again considered taxable wages by the IRS and is taxed again.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=10pt]The above iterative process is repeated until such time that there is zero tax obligations remaining.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]Also, please be reminded:[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]You have until 4:00 PM ET Friday, December 13[/SIZE][SIZE=10pt] to make your election.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]If you do not make an election in the box titled “Pre-Tax Retro + Lump Sum Payment”, your “Current Pre-Tax Election” will be applied instead. So if you have ZERO for your regular tax-deferred election, nothing will be taken out of this check either.[/SIZE]
 
[SIZE=10pt]Any election you make in the special payment box will go away once the December 30 payments are made. Your election will then revert back to your regular 401(k) election for your January paycheck.[/SIZE]
