Pilot Pay Scales

Ya easier. I like the $41/hr to start on the 190. How about 7 years before getting more than 1 week vacation. If selling out the new pilots is a sacrifice then you gave up a lot didn't you?

This is what all the big unions are doing. Selling their young to save their retirement. Look at Delphi, GM...

I'm not saying it is right or wrong. I disagree with voting in B and C scales.

Given the choice to save your current QOL and pay rate, retirement etc, or cut the rate of a pilot not yet hired, what would you do?

It's not just pilots, you can put almost any labor group in that sentence.

That is the reason why union membership in general is in decline and why they are viewed as toothless tigers.

I was always taught that a union man left the job better than he found it for the guy who hasn't even thought about applying for it yet.

Yet from the cockpit to the patrol car we see incumbents blowing off the yet to be hired using the "I got mine, pull the ladder up" mentality.

This 'Screw the next guy' mentality is what allows management to erode the strength of the unions over time.

Here in NYC the police department can't even get enough recruits to fill its academy classes. Why? The PBA sacrificed the rookie pay in order to get the incumbents a raise.

Tell me, as a 22 year old coming out of college or the service are you going to pin a bullseye on your shirt every day for $25,600 a year? Or are you going somewhere where you can make a decent salary for wearing that bullseye?

DFW was offering a $10K signing bonus in addition to a $50K plus starting salary, same in LA.

Very well stated. Any union job used to be highly sought after. Not any longer.
