The Million Dollar question still has not been answered.  What will happen to all the Piedmont employees system wide?  What will happen to all those Dash-8s?   I can't believe that nothing has been announced yet regarding this MAJOR piece of the puzzle.

A few Dash8s are not a major piece of the puzzle.

EN will end up as a ground handling company.

Here come the vendors taking everybody’s mainline job
“This is important for both our people and our company as we further expand our ground handling business."

I wouldnt put it past them to shutdown Piedmont (EN) and turn all the ground handling they do to "Envoy".

yea those Dashes were so important they didn't even get painted from the last merger.

I think you hit the nail, right on the head.

Are you sure about that?

A few did get painted.  I counted at least ten in the current livery.

Maybe not a major piece, but still somewhat important. The  DH-8's currently serve several markets that suit them very well. Some may underestimate this until they take a close look at all of the routes that they operate. I believe that HHH doesn't permit the use of jets at all, so US/AA will need something to serve that city. There are also a lot of markets served out of PHL that work very well with the DH-8, so it will be interesting to see what the company has planned to cover them.

As far as the livery on the DH-8's, I believe that there are a few of the 300 series that still have the older blue paint on them. I know many of the crews at PI, and I wish them the very best. All a great bunch, that have 5x the experience that any of these kids flying the RJ's for Mesa and Air Wisky do.

Republic acquired Q's from colgan for United's operations. It is not a stretch to figure that they could supply US/AA with what is needed in the turboprop department by adding a few frames to their fleet.

All those Dash-8's? Back when Piedmont was not merged with Allegheny, they had more frames than the combined fleet does today. Four left the fleet last year and two are going to be parked this year and for many years the company position was they were looking for more Dash's. They never came up with one. Also parts availability is a problem, so the parked planes are cannibalized.
The only city served by the Dash-8 that will lose service will be HHH due to its 4300 foot runway which has 300 foot displaced thresholds at both ends.
Does not look good for PDT in the near future, too bad, I worked with some great people there.

The Q-400's are too large for many Dash markets, 76 seats compared to 35 and 50 seats.

First class seats would take that number down a bit and frequency changes could address some of those issues as well. There are only a couple cities that see the Dash exclusively. Most see a mix of aircraft and changing frequencies in those cities would likely address those issues as well.

Just learned today that LIT Piedmont employees got their packets. American Eagle is taking over the operation on March 11.  So long PI employees. Very sad day in Little Rock.
