As a US FF who has read and heard of the Southwest effect at ever airport they go into, I would like to hear from the employees of US your thoughts on the effects at PHL.

Please refrain from the I HATE THEM post and offer your honest comments. Has it changed the way you work or look at your job or the industry? I have never flown Southwest and after seeing their TV show am afraid to but they do seem to have a successful business model that all are trying to copy, to some point.

To my view things like turning planes around faster by having FA clean the cabin seems to make sense but to be honest, I'm not in the industry so take it for what its worth.

PERIWINKLE!!!

Technically, the "Southwest Effect" refers to the dramatic increase in passengers at an airport after WN starts service (with the concurrent lowering of fares), not anything having to do with employee jobs, policies, or procedures.

Given that, a quick look at the Consumer Air Fare Report for 1Q05 (the latest out) shows this compared to 1Q04:

PHL
- O/D Passenger count up 36%
- Average fare down 27%

NYC (all 3 airports)
- O/D passenger count up 9%
- Average fare down 7%

BOS
- O/D passenger count up 8 %
- Average fare down 11%

ATL
- O/D passenger count up 6%
- Average fare down 4%

MIA
- O/D passenger count up 6%
- Average fare down 6%

*all percentages rounded to nearest whole percent

So it seems that the "Southwest Effect" is occuring in PHL....
