I noticed on several occasions when entering PHL, that the flight display for UA frequently shows #896 as a direct flight from SIN with customs clearance at PHL. I know this is not a direct flight - in fact is a change in aircraft at ORD, and was wondering why this is shown in this manner - other than a continuous error. You obviously would be clearing at ORD for this flight

There is a difference between a non-stop flight and a direct flight. A direct flight makes a stop and you may or may not change planes. Also a direct flight keeps the same flight number. You will clear customs at the first point of entry into the States. I hope this helps. From a furloughed res agent.
