Just when we thought things where taking a turn for the better in PHL.
US just brought back the ramp manager and 3 shift managers that screwed it all up last year!!
Why do we just keep recycling management?
If they couldn't fix the problem before...in fact they made it worse.... why are they back?
Is there no one out there better?
We're doomed.

I'd like to make a comment on my observations of things in PHL. I was non-reving through PHL on Friday and while I was there a thunder storm passed by around 3-4pm. Now normally, such an event in PHL would be catastrophic and would cripple the operation for the remainder of the day. Not so on Friday. While operations were slowed to a crawl for a short period of time, the hub rebounded fairly quickly. I was trying to non-rev back to PIT and unfortunately, the flight filled up due to previous misconnects. So I was there until a later flight. I was very impressed with what I saw there. As flights came in, the agents meeting the flights seemed ot have very up to date flight information and directed customers to connecting gates guickly, or to special service desks if their connection had already departed. Planes were turned quickly and returned to the air in shorter periods of time then I ever imagine PHL could turn an airplane. This is a far cry from previous events that I have witnessed there. Previously, I have witnessed airplanes there were boarded and ready inside, just to sit at the gate for another hour while they struggled to find someone to load/unload the airplane. More time was lost then was gained, and inside it always seemed total chaos as no one was ever sure what flights were there and what was gone. Customers were sent running for airplanes that left 20-30 minutes earlier.

I have to say that I was impressed with PHL and if this any indication of the changes that may be taking place there, then I say Bravo. For those that were working in PHL Firday night......excellent job. It is that sense of team work and top level performance that will ensure that we give WN a run for their money!

MMY,

If only that same motivation could have been brought to the table when US had a virtual monopoly on PHL, perhaps people would not be waiting for LUV.

I place that blame squarely on whomever in CCY is responsible for operations, not on any of the frontline folks.

Keep in mind that a lot of this depends on New York Center. If the weather in question did not have a big impact there and they're playing "nice" (and perhaps Southwest with the requisite number of free pizzas has helped see to that) then PHL can recover quickly from these types of events. OTOH we've all seen countless times when gridlock ensues with relatively benign weather at PHL itself.

I guess no one else wanted the jobs. The company was offering shift managers in CLT to go to PHL and help out with things. They were offered $1000.00 more a month and a hotel for two months. Guess what no one took the company up on the deal. Great deal huh. I just don't think the company knows what to do with PHL. They better figure it out real quick.

they need to fire to bad ones tehn go outside the company such as an aviation services type firm.

They have been going outside the Company for Years..........

No one wants the Shift Managers Job.........Most are hired right off the Street with Minimal Experience.

That was only on a temporary basis and some did take the company up on that offer but no one went permanently. There was a great deal of interest initially until it was discovered that Dave's boy was put in place and then no one wanted to go and be a part of the "solution". When he was announced the consensus was they really didn't want to fix PHL because if they did they would've chosen another person. They even offered to double the salary of the shift manager from CLT to go to PHL permanently and it was turned down. Not surprising in light of things.

Mr. Airport....on a follow up it appears the company informed those interested Shift Managers in CLT that they weren't needed in PHL. Apparently they have it covered up there but it doesn't sound like it. Maybe they could clone the PIT or CLT managment team and put them in PHL. The CLT team is especially strong and I've heard a lot of good things about the PIT managers as well.

It doesn't matter where the managers that work in PHL come from, you're going to get the same result. Every manager that has come to PHL all gung ho quickly realizes they can't effect any change and their attitude goes down the drain. It can take anywhere from a week to a couple of months, but it always happens.

Until CCY gives PHL proper staffing and equipment things will never change, regardless of who is in management. You have big A.C. to thank for a lot of the problems.
