Inevitably, the pension will be the next item on the table. If and when it does happen, would you agree to it in exchange for full restoration of everything we lost?
Absolutly NOT!!! The problem is there are a LOT of people out there who would gladly jump out of the pension in exchange for a Company matched 401k. And we know the Company would gladly accomadate them.
come on now fellows, its all about jobs! think of all the jobs we can save by giving up pension next. are yall forgetting "A LOAF OF BREAD COST THE SAME FOR EVERYONE"? how can yall be so self centered? besides the officer's need a raise, you amfa sellout's....... i meant to say scabs!
Haven't we done more than our part to help the company? After 9-11 everyone put in a little extra effort so that the company would not have to pay anymore overtime than it had to. Airplanes for the most part went out the door on time. When the company claimed that they would enter into bankruptcy we had people laid-off, our pay slashed and gave up an enormous amount of benefits that we had fought for for years and we did it practically over night. We also went along with a 4-10 type schedule that eliminated any kind of weekend overtime. Friends of mine who were bumped down from licensed mechanic to SRP (another money saving sacrifice) took up to 30% paycut on top of all the benefits they gave up. To say that our sacrifices, when compared to the sacrifices of management, were disproportional would be an understatement. We were ran over. The fact that your even talking about giving more up in a trade is repugnant. We have given up more than our fair share. We will no longer willingly suffer for managements inability to manage! My suggestion is that management repair the problem rather than blame the problem on workers wages and benefits. One year later, one year since the big fix and the company's still waving the bankruptcy flag. Didn't you learn anything the first time?
We should be getting some of our benefits back with no strings attatched. The effort on behalf of the company would go a long way as far as improving our morale and allowing us to believe that company and its maintenance workers are on the same team again, both striving to provide safe transport for the customer at the most competitive price as efficiently as possible. Perhaps they would see more professionalism and a little more effort put out by the employees. Nobody wants to accept the belief that the management of this company are nothing more than a collection of scumbags that don't care about its employees needs.
The company got everything else so easily why wouldnt they go for the Pension?
They are probably kicking themselves for not going for it during the last round of Concessions.
With the TWU there is no hope for a better future. They will leverage our future for more members. They will get those members by selling us cheap in order to give the largest airline-AA the lowest labor costs. They can do this because those who make the decisions, those who do the real negotiations, those who own the contract are not accountable to the members. In effect we work for two entities, AA and the TWU, we have no representation.
You can put all the Internationals BS aside and look at the facts. This contract belongs to the International, not us. Whenever the members or their elected representatives challenge the TWU International this is made clear in court as in the recent 501 Lawsuit and others. The Presidents council has NO authoritative power, they are merely a scapegoat. The contract and all binding letters of agreement are signed by unelected International reps, the only place where our elected leaders sign is as witnesses, anyone could be a witness, they could grab some guy off the street and ask him to be a witness. As witnesses they have no say in the contract.
