By lowering the debt, the Commonwealth has taken a huge step to make PIT attractive to carriers that might be able to use 10 gates and gain market share by offering fares that will actually drive traffic to PIT (instead of pushing it to CLE or CAK).USA320Pilot said:I believe the Commonwealth acted way too slow and if they had reacted with more enthusiasm, there was reason to believe PIT could be like Cincinnati with 25 mainline and 25 express gates.
Now with the flight hours being transferred to East Coast focus cities, the opportunity to turn Pittsburgh into a hub like Delta has in Cincinnati appears over.
Damn skippy!ClueByFour said:By lowering the debt, the Commonwealth has taken a huge step to make PIT attractive to carriers that might be able to use 10 gates and gain market share by offering fares that will actually drive traffic to PIT (instead of pushing it to CLE or CAK).
Hmm. What an interesting concept.
In reality, US never had any intention of keeping a hub in PIT and the Commonwealth has properly in both timing and in whom they choose to help (all carriers at the airport, not just the bankrupt one that robbed the proverbial piggybank at the 11th hour of Chapter 11).
Oh, and CVG has some of the highest fares in the country. PIT will too, until LUV finishes in PHL, anyway.
