Painful Departure

Hopefully, CLT!! We have lost over 800 mechanics to layoffs since 2001.
Seven more of my coworkers (mechanics) just left the building this weekend to layoffs. :( But thats OK since my union brothers will pick up the slack by working OVERTIME!! My phone rang over 5 times this weekend to work overtime, but I can't stoop that low to take it. How these people can accept overtime and then run into a laidoff coworker on the street and look them in the eye and ask how are things going is PATHETIC.   The company will continue to screw us and then the workers screw each other. I am embaressed to have ever met many of my coworkers who are so GREEDY. When my number comes up, and one day it will, It will be a relief not to look at some of these people. You know who you are. For the rest, which is also many I will never forget you guys. You've stuck together till the end.
I'm glad to see that there is someone else out there who isn't willing to sell out to the man. I was so angry when I got laid off...hearing about people sucking up the overtime that USED TO BE MY JOB. Greedy b-st-rds.

Talk of PIT Res. closing has been in the air for a long time. We're sure, eventually, it will happen with the threat of the internet, downsizing and outsourcing. When, is the big question. At this point, it would be quite difficult with 200 calls or more on hold throughout the day every day. There are not enough agents to handle the call volume and it seems each week they give Res. more call types to handle. The only way that they could downsize this dept. in the near future, is if they have outsourcing in the works already. Which means they have already hired a company, began training and teaching the trainees ENGLISH (if you know what I mean).

If they downsized this dept. now, the company would really be in trouble. If there are not enough people to handle the calls and sell the tickets, how will they collect revenue. The call volume is out of control now and I'm sure much revenue is lost due to potential passengers not wanting to hold for 20 minutes or much longer.

You may say the internet but, at this point in time...no way could US survive with just internet sales. US website is not up to snuff, a lot of people have no clue how to book on line, no computor access and a lot of people actually want to book with a human being. A big chunk of calls are dot com problems or issues. I don't forsee those problems going away.

So, as far as PIT Res. closing, maybe down the line but I don't see how in the near future.

Overtime is also an issue in Res. There is overtime offered just about every single day because of the call volume due to the lack of sufficient number of agents. There is much money wasted. The majority of agents that work overtime are the senior topped-out agents. A lot are the senior agents that came from cities where Res. centers were closed down and they have no family or friends here and nothing to do but work huge amounts of overtime. Some are putting in 160 hrs every 2 weeks. On a scheduled work day, after 8 hrs, the first 4hrs ot is time 1/2 after that double time. Work your first day off, first 8 hrs time 1/2 after that double. Work second day off all double as long as you worked at least 4 hrs on your first day off. Do the math...it really adds up fast. Again, a lot of wasted money and the call volume is still outrageous.

Maybe if everyone stopped working overtime in each dept. it would send a message!

There are still many of us who will refuse to take overtime. But you know how greedy people can be. They'll try to justify it in their own minds by saying someone else will take it if I don't, or take the money while you can, and many other quotes to make them sleep better at night. Deep down all the guys taking the overtime no its WRONG. They just don't have the morales or integrity to stop. To me that puts them in the same class as the company.

Thanks for your support Too Much Time To Quit, Myself being laid off from CLT it good to hear there are some left there who remember those of us who are gone!

Well, here is something interesting. For the very FIRST TIME, in all my years here at U as a F/A, scheduling went into the Reserve Book yesterday with 0 trips. None, zip, nada. And scheduling lied at that, with the update, saying they only had 7 reserves available. They didn't even cover OPR. Well, for those of us who have CATCREW at home, it is easy to count the available reserves. They had at least 75!!!! Just another stab in the belly. <_<

I one time ask scheduling about why the numbers are always different from CATCREW. Well, it seems they only count people who are AVL for 3 or more days. So anyone AVL for 1 or 2 doesn't get counted in the update number because they assume they will ROC for their OFF or INV days. It also does not include people that make themselves AVV. I have seen the screen they look at in scheduling and it's very misleading for us. They are looking at it from a totally different program than we use and it gives them different numbers based on some formula of who they think will ROC-CALL in SCK, ect.
This happens in PHL all the time. They go in with just OPR or 1 trip only. The blockholders flood the bidsheet in the middle of the month. They have 150 trips with 210 blockholders wanting trips.....it's outrageous.

Back on the subject of painful departure from PIT, does this imply that PIT res will close?
a good indicator would be whether or not that building was one of the ones rejected as far as the leases go.....find that out and you will know.

USAirboy: I know, this. I have been told the same thing. I did not count 1 and 2 day AVL. But in my mind and what I see, they are being dishonest and there is no accounting for what they do. It is even harder to file claims anymore, because you can't tell how they even go about quick calls.

I will say, this, the company is shrewd. And when they beg and plead to help out when coverage is critical, F/A's will tell them to stick it. Our days off, are our days off.

And further more, it seems they are not covering EVEN OPR these days. They might have to fork over that $1.95 per diem. <_<

Delldude

The word on the lease for PIT Res. buildings is US is on a month to month lease.
