I know it's not exactly on topic for this forum, but it will have an effect on us nonetheless.....

The Independence Air hub at Washington Dulles will be the largest low-fare hub in America this summer -- with 300 daily departures. In addition to non- stop service from Newark to Washington starting June 16th, by later this summer Independence Air will also offer a schedule of easy one-stop connections to 23 destinations, including Atlanta, Buffalo, Charleston (SC), Charleston (WV), Chicago, Cleveland, Columbia (SC), Columbus (OH), Dayton, Detroit, Greensboro (NC), Greenville/Spartanburg (SC), Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Knoxville, Lansing, Louisville, Nashville, Norfolk, Pittsburgh, Raleigh/Durham, Rochester (NY), and Savannah.

Worst on-time record in the industry. Poor customer service that is even worse at the hub in Dulles. ATC delays from 300 additional flights at IAD. Many people will fly them once or twice and then look elsewhere.

There are many other passengers that refuse to Atlantic Coast/ Indy Air based on past performance.

The only city on that list that "surprised" me was Lansing, MI. I don't think Lansing had nonstop service to DC area before. Otherwise, an announcement as expected. However, I have to think IAIR will hemorage cash for the first month or so, since they have less than one month to sell tickets for their first day of flying. Lots of folks probably have their summer vacations planned by now.

They will make lots of money. I imagine their cost structure is in line with their current competitive fare structure. Sure the business traveller won't put up with their service if it as poor as reported, but Independence is not targeting the business customer. They are out to help clean out the Greyhounds, and leisure travellers have very short memories regarding service and are interested in two things only: Cheapest fare and get-me-there-in-one-piece.

And AirTran has demonstrated that even the second one can be circumvented with a quiet name change.

You'd be wrong. Those RJs are not cheap to operate.

I'd be hard-pressed to believe that the name is the only thing that changed at that airline since 1996.

If you want to throw stones................

AAI and VJET are a world apart!
