Apr 2 is fast approaching for ORD to Shanghai.

Jesus, can you IMAGINE the senior Mama's(seniority) flying THAT trip ??

How many times/days in a 30 day month would those senior Mama's have to drive to the parking lot at ORD to go to work ??

Pilots;
What would be the route taken to PVG ??

From PVG ??

Muchas Gracias !!

NHBB,

I fly for another airline, but I'll answer some of your questions anyway :D

The ICAO airport identifier is ZSPD and the regular one as shown on schedules and tickets is PVG ( Pudong International Airport).

Normally two routes are used. The one from the west coast is similar to flying to Japan. Typically it takes you off the coast of North America and Canada, then westbound crossing the Aleutian Islands of Alaska and making landfall near Tokyo, exciting japan to the east and then over the East China Sea to Shanghai.

Another route has you exciting Alaska near Nome, then over Siberia in Russian airspace and then over Japan and into China. As opposed to Beijing and Hong Kong where one would leave Siberia and enter China to the north over Harbin and then south to Beijing and onwards to Hong Kong.

Shanghai is a pretty nice city and it might be worth using some of your passes to check it out

And yes - expect to see the senior mamas - the shopping is plentyful and cheap..

NHBB-

Not sure how much gas is left after landing in DEL, but there is more than when landing in ORD. Flight time from DEL to ORD is 15.55. I just did it and actual flying time was a little over 16 hours. Right now we go over Sweeden and then down north of Moscow into Uzbekistan over Afghanistan to Pakistan into India. Apparantly, it will be a polar route around 8 months of the year.

Looking at the past month, T-292 has been reporting between 25K# and 29K# in arrival fuel at DEL. It starts out with approx. 255K#, so landing with at least 10% of the departure fuel seems quite reasonable on that long of a trip. T-293 is reporting in at ORD with between 14K# and 24K# remaining, which is less than 10% of departure fuel on a good day.

For comparison, the daily 777 between DFW and ORD burns about #30K for its two hour flight.

With a roundtrip of approximately 29 hours, the mama's will have 2 of these plus maybe a turn or a partial trip thrown in. So they will grace the parking lot approximately twice, or take the senior citizen bus to the airport twice.

FormerMod,
I'm guessing 255K# is not even full tanks on AA's 777s since most Boeing widebodies can take half of their MTOW in fuel.

True. Maximum fuel capacity, according to Boeing, is 45,220 US gallons, or about 303,000 pounds.

Glad to see that AA is practicing efficient fuel management - and is not carrying more fuel than necessary.

Of course, NH/BBs still probably faults AA for not taking along an extra pair of engines. B)

FWAAA,

"Quit breakin' my CHOPS" :D :D :D

Thanx everyone for contributing Info.

AMFAMAN,

Well what do you expect, after drinkin' BEER for 15 hours.
The only thing missing is a jar of "pickled EGGS"

IORFA,

Whats the seniority running for DEL.
At LEAST 25 years, I'd Imagine, and probably MORE for PVG.

NHBB,

The bid lines have 2 DEL trips with either a 3 day LHR or a carryover DEL trip. So if they keep their schedule, they still come to the airport 3 times. Same as NRT, just about the same hours as well. Technically, DEL is also more days on as well. Just a thought. I really haven't paid too much attention to seniority of the line holders. My friend who is approximately 5000 and change, can't hold it. PVG will most likely go more senior than DEL. I can assume that the odor associated with DEL won't exist in PVG. Never know though. People really like their NRT and are firmly planted in their routine, makes it tough to change. Plus, I think the shopping will be much better in PVG than DEL. They just put out a proffer for over 100 non-speakers today for April. So the planning has begun.

NHBB,

I'd say 25 years is pretty close for DEL, and you are probably right about PVG being more senior.

IORFA,

Many thanx for the info.

So if my calculations are right, a very senior "Mama" can go to ORD on a MONDAY, to NRT, and be back THURSDAY, and do THAT 3 weeks in a row, then be off the 4th week of the month ?

NH/BB's

Actually NRT is a 3 day trip. Usually you work a rotation like all the days that end in 1. I.E. 1st, 11th and 21st possibly a carryover 31st. 2nd, 12th and so on. If you left on Monday, you'd be back on Wednesday. In theory, because of legalities, you can fly NRT on the 1st, 5th and the 9th and be done for the month when you return on the 11th. That is a nice month!!

We have senior mama's at CAL that have been doing the power flying routine for the last 5 years or so.(NRT back to back to back)Talk about speeding upthe aging process  , not to mention all the free radiation you get when flying over he pole! At least they dont have to turn the lights on when they get home.
