OPEC's urging its members to better comply with agreed quotas was expected, but its decision to make an additional cut in its formal output came as a surprise.

For consumer nations the pact looks like a threat to world economic recovery and a reminder that OPEC appears prepared to defend prices above its official $22-$28 target range.

"It is our hope that producers do not take actions that undermine the American economy ... and American consumers," said a spokesman for the White House.

This is not what any airline needs right now! I am not sure if Bush should try to step in or not right now, but this is a situation which needs to be watched with an eagle-eye!

Don't worry, Dave has it all under control. US Airways fuel is 20% hedged!
What a joke. Southwest is 100% hedged, and they paid about 15 cents less per gallon last quarter than US. No problem, Dave says he can fight them on our turf and win.

It appears that it may take more pay cuts and concessions to make up for management's lack of planning here, also. This is another large expense which must be covered, if we are to remain competitive.

The infamous words are something such as this. Who would have had to ability to predict 9-11, the war, LCC's going head to head against US, bad weather, increasing fuel prices, etc....

Flight crews are trained to plan ahead, and to be prepared for any unexpected emergency which occurs. Should not some similar standards be expected of those who lead and plan the future of an airline? Could there not be a plan B just once?

If enough sacrifices are made by the employees, can an airline can run itself, without talented management? We'll soon have the answer.

I read an interview with Osama bin Ladin's sister-in-law, who has recently published a book.

She says her book will reveal the contempt in which the ruling Saudi's hold America. Don't forget, Osama was in good standing with the house of Saud until recent times, and covertly financed by the Saudis after he officially fell from grace.

Can't wait to read it.

I'd much rather for America to crash-course hydrogen as fuel, and tell the Saudi's to drink their damn oil.

But with oilmen in control, there's a better chance U will kiss and make up with its employees.
