Alright , I'm coming back to Ma D after a 4 year hiatus...what new rumors are you guys hearing with the all the new developements lately? What's the real impact with bringing on the "replacement" workers from NWA? More importantly, what is going to happen with the out stations? I really am ready to come back home to Ma D, just want to know what you guys think I can expect upon my return. This is a little info that I KNOW about the caliber of the "replacements"; I personally know of one AMT that was hired DIRECTLY out of AP school to NWA, so get ready for some serious hand holding... :mf_boff:

More importantly, what is going to happen with the out stations?

I'll let someone else with more info chime in, but as far as line stations go, they just announced opening (or reopening) of some cities.

From a memo on DLnet on Feb. 27th:

" Effective this Sunday, March 1, AMT colleagues from both pre-merger Delta and pre-merger Northwest can begin bidding on any open positions, including new Line Maintenance positions in ATL, BDL, BWI, BOS, DCA, DEN, HNL, LAS, LAX, LGA, SEA, and SFO. Here are more details: The job bid will be open March 1, 2009 – March 10, 2009 Midnight EST. Jobs will be posted on e-Bid both internally and externally.

All Delta employees and pre-merger Northwest employees formerly represented by AMFA
will be eligible to bid on these positions as well as current vendor technicians."

Note the last sentence... That should make things interesting...

No earth shattering rumors. Yes, some outstations are going to expand. Here in BOS they are trying to add 35 mechanics. The Swissport guys just took the test. Not all will get hired we were just told. Where they will find the 35 we wonder. The last hiring binge here was going to have 12 new mechanics. Four actually started, one was fired in a month, another quit after about two months.

No new stations will be coming on line, well except for MSP and DTW. That is all I know.

As far as NW hiring straight out of school, Delta has done that also. Hell, they had guys working overhaul that didn't have a A&P. Weren't they called six week wonders? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of what NW did during the strike, but becareful of what you throw around. The real meat is how many of those AMT's were looking for a job because they got asked to leave from some place else?

Not too worried about the (Deleted by Moderator) replacement workers. They all have 2005 hire dates, which means slim pickings for them !

BTW, we were told we were not allowed to use that term on DL property. Well, you are what you are !

Thanks guys for that info; I really didn't know Ma D hired right out of school...I thought is was more of a final destination AFTER paying your dues. WOW. I was hired to 250 after 15 years in aviation WITH an A/P and FCC. So much for that! 99% of the Delta mechanics I've ever met have been stand up people, but I really don't see the NWA integration going smoothly...I mean you just can't summarily dismiss what went on there. I know the difference of opinion about unions at D, but I think there's a lot more to it than that. If you guys hear any other goodies, I'd appreciate a heads up...thanks again. ;)

Some of the (Deleted by Moderator) replacement workers don't even have their tickets
Does/did Delta ever hire mechanics without a license?
You'll be working side by side with a guy that doesn't have your education yet they get your pay
Hope you trust the work they do as it will be your license and name on the line.

Derogatory terms are not permitted, even if you strike through the word. Please do not use such terms. Thank you.

WTH?

You have to be kidding!

How does a "vendor" qualify to bid on anything????

That has Richard Anderson written all over it. It sounds like a Eastern/Continental/Texas Air type move. Think Chelsea, Ogden Allied, (insert outsource vendor name here)...

You guys are screwed.

Deleted by Moderator: Open Moderator Challenge. Do not do this, people. It can earn you time off from the boards. Thank you.

...at least they don't have to pay union dues! <_< (sarcasm intended)

The vendor guys can bid on open postions, just like anybody else off the street. They come in as new hires. The NW badged can bid on postions just like any DL AMT. They can go where their senority allows. I don't expect to see mass migrations. The '05 guys don't have much weight. They fall in the bottom 25% of the list now.

Yes, DL has hired straight out of school on many occasions. When I started in Overhaul I knew quite a few that were hired with me. It is still common at hard to fill stations. I think LGA is filled with newbies. I know we have a few here in BOS that were new grads. Some of those guys now have 15+ years with DL, and are excellent mechanics.

Robert you don't know what your talking about all nwa techs have a license. All the Delta amts I have met so far have been very nice as far as welcoming us aboard. There maybe some individual problems with people such as Robert but in general the
delta guys have been a good bunch.

As far as vendors bidding, I don't think that was worded right. From the letters put out the jobs will be bid in the normal delta way and recall policy. After that the vendor at the station will be able to apply and interview for a opening

Like I said, I doubt the transition will go smoothly...right or wrong, the RedTails will always have that monkey on their back. To this day, the last group of incorporated AMT's are still referred to as PanAmers, so it's not unusual. What went on at NW was wrong, and don't expect everyone to forget it easily. Most DAL AMT's will give you a fair shake, but RedTails will always carry that stigma. What I'd like them to remember is they are outsiders moving into our neighborhood and it's been a win-win-win situation for them. As for DL AMT's, it's a lose-lose so some animosity should be expected. Delta has been the best work environment that I've ever been in and I don't want to see that change for anybody or any reason.
