Neighbors rush to help, after hearing two women's desperate cries.

The women fell from a float plane that was trying to take off on Forest Lake. Both sent to North Memorial Medical Center along with the pilot, Paul Michaud.

Neighbors rush to rescue two women screaming for help in Forest Lake.

Darren Ritchot brought the women to a dock and waiting emergency crews.

The women will recover. Witnesses say one woman has a severe break in her leg, pretty minor considering the women fell 40 feet from a fast moving plane.

"It's just a miracle they all are alive," Fran Michaud said, the pilot's brother.

The floats came cleanly off, twisting the plane. Pressure inside pulled the women out of their seats.

Michaud and a passenger were able to keep flying. They brought the damaged plane down on its belly in a nearby field.

Michaund is an experienced pilot and has been around airplanes his entire life. He is a full-time mechanic (aka SCAB) at Northwest Airlines.

He calls the experience incredible, especially because everyone survived.

The Washing County Sheriff's office is investigating along with several federal agencies.

Familiarity breeds contempt! How else would an "experienced" SCAB have made errors leading to this near tragedy?
It doesn't say how the winds were that day. If they were high then it was ignorance.
It doesn't say it was mechanical failure. Again, poor preflight check Mr. Michaund?
How about having your passengers buckle up? Poor PIC skills.
Probably went back to work the next day to work on the "BIG" planes.

Don, I'm still trying to figure this one out. Normally everyone has their own seat belt. These gals got pulled out of the acft after the floats ripped off during takeoff? This one sounds like a "fish" story....

Sounds like the scab didn't do his maintenance, or did his own scab type maintenance, the type that is performed for Dougie at Scab Air.

How in the hell do you fall out of a float plane? Seat belts and the doors both malfunctioned? Something is amiss here. Then again, we are speaking about a scab who has got something amiss to be working for Dougie. Paul is a scab, not a mechanic, and obiviously is not a pilot either.

I hope the ladies sue the crap out of him.

Okay, who called MSP with the floats coming off of the plane?

All kidding aside, our prayers go out for a speedy recovery!

I wish the women a quick recovery. However, the SCAB should have died. This comment is not emotion. It is fact. A SCAB tries to kill his/her profession. Their end should meet their beliefs.

Should have hired a 'real' mechanic to do the maintenance and preflight inspections.

Could be he 'assumed' the maintenance was up to par to FAA standards as he was not in jail. :p

Does anyone know if this was this a 'revenue' flight?

WTF?!? With contempt like that toward your employer, it's no wonder NW is in the sh!tter. So I guess you would prefer if NW had no mechanics while your labor dispute played out? Who would maintain NW's ancient DC-9 fleet?

Uh, Ken doesn't work for NWA. He works for AA. He is also president of AMTA or something like that. It is a non-profit organization to eradicate professional A&P Mechanics from the industry and replace them with unskilled and untrained AMT's.

kev i wonder if the airplanes should be repainted, this time in orange with the MEL written on the tail and the new name of the airline be called UNFIXED AIR!!!!
