NO IFE on domestic A/C

I wish we could just get back our old management - Colodny, Schofield, Randy Malin - F100's, Operation High Ground, BusinessSelect - they could show these rookies how to really run an airline!

Thanks... I needed a good chortle. Malin was also the wizard that disassembled the money-making, on-time Florida Shuttle. And for sheer audacity and ignorance (or arrogance) Colodny was the one who went to RDU and said, "Warm southern hospitality will be replaced with cool northern efficiency." RDU.. a real old-school southern city.

Somewhere I read that Colodny said that the thing he really wanted to do was become a concert violinist. I just wish he had gotten his wish. Everyone would have been better off.

FYI

The new 321's will not have an IFE system installed; also, the company will be removing all the IFE systems off the domestic fleet. Only 757E 767 A330 will have video systems. Looking into adding a better system in 2009. Better start checking your demo pouches folks...no more video

Can't remember who said it but it is applicable.. you can make a pizza very cheap but then no one wiill eat it. USAir can continue cheapening the product. That means fewer people will fly.. which requires that one raise the price (sell a cheap product for a high cost NOT!) or cheapen the product again. Seems like a good way to get into a descending spiral.

Yaw.. someone needs to tell those boneheads in Tempe to visit CLT and PHL more. Every 7 dirty 7 300 I've been on has those damn tv's hanging from the ceiling. I believe I was in a 400 that had it as well.

should someone tell Christ about the laptop power at every seat on the A319/A320/A321 fleet?

Oh wait. he shouldn't

since he crammed in extra seats, you can't even use your laptops anymore in Y.

For the geographical areas that will have no IFE available here are my first thoughts.

1. All live demos, which means the company loses control over having the best-looking and best personalities provide a consistent image (as far as inflight demos and information is concerned);

2. More FAA scrutiny of the FA's and the airline in the area of the preflight demo because of a lack of the IFE to provide the approved demo consistently and without possible error (assuming the equipment was working);

3. Lack of an opportunity to provide provider paid or sponsored content;

4. More of an opportunity for bored passengers to become unruly, disruptive or otherwise more needy than they would otherwise be; and,

5. More indication of a management that fails to think outside the box and provides more incentive to book carriers that do provide more value for the money, such as JetBlue.

Those are my first thoughts on the issue.

Hey, Gloria Holtz is still kinda hot for a 59 year old.

So video advertising is not such a big revenue generator after all? You’ll never hear Tempe own up to that miscalculation, I guess.

FAA should have been on a MESA (UA Express) flight that we took last week from ORD to ABE. The poor flight attendant was late for the flight because she thought she was flying to Atlanta, not Allentown. (I don't think the United Express carriers have any flights from ORD to Atlanta).

She had to take the printed script out of her notebook and she stumbled with every sentence. It was very clear that she was not comfortable speaking English. Until the moment we landed, every time she mentioned our destination on the PA, she had to ask one of the passengers where we were going.

59??? She's been telling everyone that she's 49!! :eek:

I found that difficult to believe when the years just didn't add up after she showed us her class photo from Allegheny. They were all lined up in front of the boarding door of a DC-3!

Whatever her age, she still looks fabulous after all of these years! From white gloves to business casual, Gloria still has "got the look!" :up:

Yes, I love this quote:

In-flight entertainment systems weigh about 500 pounds. "When oil was $30, $40 or $50 a barrel, that was a weight we could bear," Christ said. "But when it's $130, clearly every pound is critical."

Isn't 500 pounds the weight of two kettles paying $49 for their ticket? :rolleyes:

Not only will the removal of IFE systems put us more in line with WN, it will help us better match AA's current domestic offering as well. No IFE on the 340+ MD80's....

Also, this just in:

NW cutting 2500+ jobs, Comair cutting 520+ jobs, and NW now charging $15 for bag#1 ... oh wait, now we are in line with NW as well, because they never had do- mestic IFE.

I fly on AA's MD80's. They are much cleaner than any of US's planes. Also, check out the routes that AA is flying those MD80's. Lots of routes similar to those US flies 737's with no entertainment. Keep spewing the BS with no knowledge or understanding of the facts. You fit in perfectly with the sandfleas.

Is that the goal, to be like NW. Well, you better start cleaning up your planes because NW's DC-9's are even cleaner than anything US flies. And, I guess you are bringing back glassware to FC? And better FC service than what US offers? People booked on Y and B fares don't pay the baggage fees. Oh, and let's not forget the 500-mile minimum. Oh, no, you just copy the "bad parts" of other airlines and expect you to stay competitive.

What?

This thread is about IFE. Each time I bring up a point about the actual topic, you bring up arguments that we already agree on: The fact that FC (for now) is better at AA, and the planes (for now) are cleaner. No arguments here. Do you deny the fact that US is now aligning its IFE more with American Airlines domestic offerings?

AA IFE offerings suck. Don't get me started on WN or NW. :lol:

Wait until you board an Airbus and see where all of the video screens have been removed. They shouldn't be too hard to miss, they can easily be identified by the square duct tape patches! :lol: :lol: :lol:

We will never be in line with Southwest with our business model. We're a hybrid remember??

And if I'm not mistaken, the other majors have or had an IFE for transcon. We were matching them.

And I do believe AA is finally getting rid of the MD-80's. Not sure about the 340's.
And AA does have an IFE for transcon. It might be in Business Class only though.
