New Tidbits

The AB was introduced and had very very few problems, that is why it only flew into 4 stations to ensure a smooth transition to the fleet, CLT, PHL, RIC and TPA were chosen.

The 170s have been nothing but problems due to faulty software, and the F100 was a bear when first introduced.

I must differ with your assessment of the Airbus aircraft introduction to U. RDU was one of the launch stations because we had MTC at the time. We used to have a name for the Airbus, "Bucket-o-Bolts". If I told you the countless delays and reroutes we did those first few months, you would wonder how we ever survived it.

One who was not there at it's introduction would never have know the He** the agents went through just to get the thing to go somewhere, anywhere!

What we learned from that experience was that the actual hardware was rarely at fault, more so the software that went into it. Sophistication breeds problems, until they are solved. The E-jets you are so hard on will be just like the Bus, once past the initial "software" issues, it will fly like a dream and on a regular basis. Go ahead, bet me it won't! I've seen it and lived it.

I trained the utility in clt on the plane and we worked the plane in CLT as one of the original four cities and had a smooth operation with it.

I myself at the time was line utility and the whole operation in CLT went smooth with minimal problems.

I'm glad someone had a good time with it's introduction. We at RDU did not. Delays upon delays for weeks on end.

If they were frequently late leaving RDU for MTC reasons, then they were late coming in and out of CLT, perhaps a CLT gate agent could remember it from their perspective- that is- reroute - reroute!

My point was, anything new will have problems UNTIL they are fixed, then they run like clockwork. The E-jet will be just like the 319's - Junk jets - UNTIL they are settled down and in the "Stable" - then they will be great to take out for a spin.

Snore... everyone loves to call a plane a POS until it's retired, then it becomes "a real airplane", "my baby", "made tons of money" and "the biggest mistake was parking them...".

Does anyone have statistics to back up the claims of the E170 being "broken" all the time? It sure doesn't seem to be. And the customers and crews seem to love it, judging by the fact that the 170 division recieves tons of complimentary letters each month.

Not that it has anything to do with the performance of the aircraft, but Inflight Services just published a collection of F/A compliment letters for the division from 2005 so far, and nearly every F/A had at least one. Great job!

2 things.....

When the airbus were first introduced, we did have "growing pains" with the airplane. Reliability was an issue while MTC figured they way around the airplane. RDU did suffer an high level of unreliability and we were at risk of losing some of our large accounts (IBM) if reliability did not improve. That is when they transitioned some of the flying to RIC and ORF to spread the wealth.

Reliability on the 170 is still sproadic. Their completion factor fluctuates up and down between 94 and 100% with MTC and EQP MTC being the leading cause of cancellations. Compared to mainline which has been consistently operating between 98-100% completion factor with MTC and EQP MTC being the leading drivers there too.

Well that Airbus and Boeing division seems just as "bad" as the Embraer one. Sell em!

You asked for facts......I gave them to you. There are still some bugs to be worked out of the 170's.......just like there was with the AB. No worries.......it is still a great airplane.
