I must take issue with your positive thinking on the new livery.
In "plane" English........it sucks !
Here is the opportunity to show the world that we have a NEW image....NEW plan...NEW forward thinking.........and yet, the brain trust just bastardized the barely acceptable livery that we already had.
Just a look at some of the European liveries will prove my point. Many of them show imagination, yet keep the airlines" identity intact.
A small bit of thinking "out of the box" at this juncture would prove positive.

I think THAI Airways has one of the classiest new liveries out there. They did a great job IMO. I would have liked something simple like theirs on the "new USAirways" too.

Its nice.. different but still nice... I know it's just paint, but it really gives everyone hope for the future of US Airways

Join me with a salute...

Regarding the swooshed up grey lines, the reason the jagged lines are in the HP livery is a bit of a nod to the native american art of the southwest. Its understated and nice.

When HP first started, the original livery was done by Ed Beauvais wife (and she probably charged the company back a bundle, all the Beauvais folk did that!), and she was in charge of the interiors of the HQ, she went a bit nuts on native american art, so much so that it was kind of a joke as to which indian cliche art was going up next!

I appreciate that the livery incorporates all the airlines, and grateful for airplanes that won't be big nasty heat islands sitting on the PHX ramp. :D

hell from a distance it looks like that lap joint mod......
like i'm getting all touchy feely here about the future.......
i'd give the appropos salute but the mods threatened to kick me off if i ever use it again.....

The modified new livery that CLT-Douglas posted looks much better than the real thing. CLT-D's design keeps the stripes off the radome, but allows that feature to look like it BELONGS to the design, and not just an afterthought.

The forward curve-under in the new design looks like a patch job. And that's unfortunate in a brand-new, out-of-the-box paint job.

CLT-D -
I like your design, too. The wave flows well with the lines in the tail - looks like they're all moving together.

Does anyone know did they do anything to the interior of the plane or is it still the nasty colors that Steven Wolf came up with back in 1997 and that just shows every stain known to man?

Well clean is good since some of the interiors are so dirty and the carpet looks nasty and the seat covers don't even get me going on that. I would have wished they would have come up with a new Interior also to fit the new U and the new livery

I too like CLT-Douglas design.... but I wonder if the more fluid lines of the fuselage suggested by CLT-D have a tendency to make the 'flag icon' look even more out of place.

Perhaps CLT-D's scheme would be a next natural evolution with the new branding without both the 'fossilized flag icon' and the red 'tipped' tail. Actually, I like the red tipped tail, it reminds me of AWA's original teal tipped tail. I wonder if that two could have a french curve thrown on it... hmmmm?

i flew on it today from pit-clt. i asked doug parker if i could ride with them to clt. he said absolutely. it was a blast. they served inflight cafe meals and had an america west f/a and a us f/a working the bev carts together. i took pictures . got to get them developed though. the only us executive onboard is lakefield. the rest is hp management. i also met with the new vp of inlfight. very very cool guy. i had alot of fun. was invited to proceed to phx but i had to go home. the news scheme looks nice in person. they were giving out pins with the retro logo's and also stickers. a very awesome day for usairways. i was proud to be a part of it .

Do you think that the airlines are going to make those things available to people who weren't able to show up since some of us had to work to keep the airlines flying? I hope so of if anyone has extra pins and things let me know!
