Rumor and just a rumor says that we are going to use the timco facility in Phoenix to do some heavy airbus checks. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this. Thanks

That hanger was taken down for the new control tower, wasn't it?
I can't say I'm familiar with that particular hangar ..but the new tower is between T3 & T4 ..don't think that's enough space to have had a hangar . .

The Timco hanger is in Goodyear,Az. Timco is out of there now and a flight control overhaul company has moved in or will be soon. Yes there was a large part 145 operation at Sky Harbor that in the end was owned by TIMCO. It was torn down several years ago to make room for the terminal 4 expansion. :(

Wasn't it torn down for the new firehouse? The old firehouse was removed to allow use of A18 and A20. My spatial relationships are going out of whack the older I get.

There is a proposal to tear down the hangar in Goodyear and add another runway or expand one. Nothing definite. If they built a new facility, it would be a excellent place for heavy maintenance.

lots of talk of relocating the fabled Frank Schifano Maintenance Facility from PIT TO PHX.
10-4 on the fabled....like Harris Wofford on healthcare Frank-o rode that dog right into a secure union job. Where's the hanger, where's most of the guys Frank used to make promises to? Oh I forgot___IAM Heaven Gate

You would want maintenance at an airport you fly to, not have to ferry a plane in and out if you want to accomplish it in-house.

Only since PHX has no room. And its better than flying to Macon, El Salvador or any of the other out of the locations we have gone.

Actually, PHX may have room in the future. The City of Phoenix bought Phoenix Greyhound Park across from T-4 and is leasing the facilities to the dog track for 5-10 years. That space could accomodate a hanger, or it could be used as part of an eventual fourth runwway if Honeywell were ever to move.

GYR would work well. A short 20 mile hop from PHX. That would definately safe a lot of fuel, crew time and expenses such as alternate transportation and lodging of ferry crews.

700 is right, you don't want to be ferrying planes, regardless of how short the ferry flight may be.

Look at what happened to heavy mtc at places like INT and UCA.
