New F/a Reserve System

f/a,

I completely get your point, in fact, the first time I heard the company was offering flyback I was disbelieving because why would they offer this if we had even one person out on an invol. But my first post was to clarify that flyback for me was an issue of flexibility. We had to bid our 03 vacation 12 months ago. I ended up with 2days in Nov. on the 15/22. So now, as a secondary B/H. if i bid and hold a block that touches those two days I could potentially be wiping out 2 4days from my block. Now that I have flyback I can call and keep and/or drop those trips up to the day before. Yes, I agree with you that no one bidding flyback would send a powerful message to the company even as it is unrealistic and the company does not seem to care. If the company could change the FAR's to make it possible to not have F/A's at all, we would all be out on the street by dawn.

So when you see my name on the flyback list in Nov. please know that I will not be taking one minute from someone needing one minute to call O/T...By the way, will there be such a thing as O/T with the new RSV.?
Well, where to begin????...

This is why you SHOULD NOT have vacation flyback EVER!!!!!!!!

You see, I along with HUNDREDS of others, have not made more than 40hrs in quite a long time. This equates to about a $800.00 pay cut a month..

While there are these people not making their time NO ONE should have flyback!! While there are thousands on furlough..there should be NO ONE getting flyback!!

Everyone is correct that everyone will be in for the shock of their lives with this new reserve system.

We have been living like this for almost 2 years now soooooo welcome to our world.

It is high time to "de-throne" the senior mamas.

WE ALL NEED TO BE TREATED EQUAL.

Well Mr/Mrs potato where do I begin?
The first thing Mr. Wolf did when he came to our property (remember him) was cut the staffing on the 300/400 (yes, 737, not A330) from 4 F/A's to 3 F/A's. I had been at the job for 8 1/2 years at the time and was still on reserve in PHL (Then, by far our most junior base) and found myself go from page 10 of the reserve book to page 650. I'm not real sure of the actual page numbers but, point being, I went from working to not working. I NEVER got called. Oh, once, I think, with a CLT out of base trip. This stuff has been going on at this company forever and if you think that your situation is unique, think again. I was living on minimum paychecks before your were even hired. So now, in your inability to see that I am actually on your side, you have made me re-think the issue of flyback. What was, this morning, an issue of FLEXIBILITY has now become one of MONEY....A nice fat paycheck may be just what the doctor ordered for X-mas and to fatten up the kitty before I go back on reserve again...Have a nice day french fried.

Oh and another thing onion ring...actually two things...This attitude about 'de-throning the senior mamas' is really unbecoming of a respectable vegetable such as yourself....where do you think "senior mamas" come from? You obviously value your job, want to keep your job. When should YOU have to quit so you don't become a senior mama? Maybe we should adopt a policy here at Airways like Malaysian is adopting...Every female (yes only female) that reaches the age of 35 is required to retire from flying. One of their vice-presidents was quoted in an editon of last weeks IHT as saying "let's face facts, our business customers only want to be served by pretty young women". Just think how Senior we all would be?!?!...And finally, this hombre will be outa here if I go back on RSV. So you can rest assured that because I, having taken part in the mass exodus, will allow you to go from your present situation to 6T/FCO. Cheers and good night potato chip.

OK guys....lets just calm down and remember we are on the same team. Management is reading this up in the Crystal Palace and just loving every word. Divide and conquer. I can see both sides of the argument and I have expressed my opinion on this matter, so no need to rehash. Ever since I set foot at USAirways it has been the JR F/As vs. the SR F/As. Remember that everyone has paid their dues in some form or another. However, I must say that "crazy 8's" and a few of the "nutty 9s" have been through HELL in the past 2 years. It's more than just sitting bottom reserve, it is about furlough notices coming and then being retracted. I am up to 3 myself. Coming to work since 9/11 with an ax over our heard and then not flying on top of that is like a torture chamber for most. This company OWNS YOU if your low reserve these days.
The "SR Mama's" I am sure sat reserve but I know some that didn't sit 1 day on reserve and went straight to being blockholders. Those are some of the most clueless ones. Anyone hired from 1988 to 1999 knows what it's like to sit bottom reserve and not fly. Lets just remember we have over 3000 F/A's on furlough and hope the best for them.

Nice post A330!! The ax over the head is not a good feeling at all. I was from
the first class of 2000 back when all the major hiring was being done.
Before the 11th happened i had almost 1500 under me because they were spitting two classes out a month. Then all hell as we know broke loose and it was down
hill ever since. I didn't realize how stressed i was with the thought of
getting laid off hanging over my head. Its funny i was hateing the fact that i was getting laid off yet so relieved that it happend. No more having to worry anymore!

You are right in that some block holders just don't have a clue. Atleast the ones that have always held a block from day one. But if it were me id probably be the same way. Heck i can remember sitting in recurrent this past feb and
someone talking about OPR and this whole table of really senior co-workers yelled out..."we still have OPR?" My table just laughed!! I said....sweetie..your looking
at OPR and pointed to my whole table!! :p and their responce was..."god i thought they got rid of that years ago" They just don't have a clue but
yet it was so funny.

Do you remember a while back when the 757 was intergrated in with the 737 pairings so that every now and then if you were on a 737 trip you might have one leg on the 757. Well i worked a 757 pairing were the D and the E were on there for a 3 day trip only staying with the 757 and you get a few crews a day that was on a 737 trip. I was D and this f/a came up and she had this look on her face and asked what in the hell this was all about. I just laughed and said well you know the company...."Nothing makes since" She said...well let me tell you...im "A"
and I have been flying for 22 years and this is my first time working a 757 EVER so youll have to treat me like a new hire. I just laughed and laughed...i couldn't believe it. She was one that has always had a block and chose to never fly the 757. .......... Its just a whole different world i guess! One that i will never get to see!! :D :p

cltflyguy,

Your story about the intergrated 737/757 is so true!!!!! I had a similar situation. Myself and a fellow junior f/a (phl based ) and the cpt and fo were all flying on the 757 for a few days and we mostly had clt crews that came on to cover the other positions..most of them were cluless..but we had one couple that were husband and wife..been flying for 20 years and never flew the 757..I of course could not beleive this...but, it was true. They were the sweetest couple..but totally clueless. I was D and her husband was A..So, me being the nice person I am..I gave her D so they could be together. But, before I left them up there alone, I had to show them how to do everything..it was kinda funny...but...if there had been an emergency..I honestly do not think they would have been in charge. They did not even know how to arm an dis arm...scarry huh?....true story.... Maybe they should have payed attention in recurrent.
