New F/a Reserve System

Does anyone have any idea when the company plans on releasing the specifics on the new reserve system? Will it be before or after the union meeting?

You guys at US are not going to be able to pick your trips and position or pass anymore?

The AFA LEC's will be presenting us the information in the form of local meetings in OCT. Or so I have been told. I would love to have some headphones on in scheduling OCT 31 at 3pm too listen-in when they start the process. People are in for the shock of their lives.

Since I have been on an voluntary furlough I have been getting the e-lines from AFA but do not remember seeing any information about the new reserve system. No passing, no picking of position? Any other surprises? Also which seniority number does the involuntary furlough go to as a result of implementation of the new reserve system?

HulaGirl:

3 weeks after the VF extension deadline and we STILL have no clue on the DEC numbers and neither does AFA. As usual the company is playing mind games.
The reserve system went to an arbitrator and he made some ruling and I have no clue beyond that. I asked and AFA said it would be presented in Local Meetings throughout OCT.
Fun isn't it? I know this....NOV 1st some of these reserves world's will be turned upside down.

I agree that the delay(s) on informing the flight attendants of the new reserve system are getting burdensome. This bomb is gonna hit real soon and any information would help.

Many of us are going to have to find part-time work to supplement our income now that we no longer have our seniority to hold a trip and make our time. Paychecks are gonna hit bottom come December 15th. I don't know about others, but I don't think that I can afford to stay in this job much longer. As for those I've been flying with, the consensus has been similar. Government cheese diet or quit.

Maybe things would have been a bit better if they had instituted the preferential bid system concurrently with the new reserve system (more blocks with no open time?).

As for another matter:

WHY ARE THEY OFFERING A VACATION FLY-BACK FOR DECEMBER?

Why would they not offer Vacation Flyback for DEC? If the new reserve system blows up in management's face (which would be a hoot) they want as much flexibility as possible. It should have been in our contract that if F/A's were out on furlough they could not offer Vacation Flyback....but what can we do now but deal with it.
Well, if the company has it's way remember that they will furlough a lot of reserves when they implement the new system. The only way you will get trip is on a sick call after Pref. Bid takes effect. Uhhhhg......gives me heartburn just thinking about it.

Geez...to think I was so excited about returning to work in December!

It's too bad that all of this wasn't ironed out prior to the global bid.

Looks as though they are trying to be a be proactive with offering vacation fly-back in December. I just wish our flight attendants would say NO to this, especially knowing U is about to furlough more of our friends.

Maybe one day, we'll all wake up and this bad dream will be no more.

Perhaps if some of the greedy time stealing senior mamas hadn't overflown all year ( 180 hours per month flying international and picking up back to back craf trips- you know who you are) we would still have many of our flight attendants who were furloughed.
The same thing will happen in December, the senior flight attendants who normally take off for the holidays will fly their asses off and watch our numbers be reduced yet again. Saying "No" is not in their vocabulary.

 180 hrs?? Surely this cannot be... can it?

I thought there was a crackdown on overflying? I seem to remember the Co offering vacation flyback for October.... wonder if many signed on for that in light of the additional furloughs forthcoming.

You would be surprised how many F/As sign up for FlyBack and actually do it. Some defend it saying that if they don't, someone else will and it's "in their contract." They have no problem with it because they justify it in their mind.
Crack down on overfly? Oh please...they have never been serious about it and the union can't say anything that would get a F/A in trouble so....the cycle just goes on...and on...and on.
I don't think FlyBack was offered to the ITD bases...just Domestic. As if that makes it OK.

OK everyone, this is my first post so be gentle...I have opinions on just about every topic being discussed on this board but have refrained from posting because usually someone will post my opinion eventually and usually more eloquently. Quick background: mid-1989 hire date. Furloughs, recalls, displacements been there, done that...12 years ago. Reserve for the better part of 10 years. Hired LAX/Commute SFO for 9 years, never been based on the west coast. Keep in mind with my seniority date I have nominal seniority when compared to the earliest 8's. Just lost a primary for Nov. and reserve is a virtual certainty if there is no change to the madness that has gripped this Co. Anyway, onto flyback...there IS another reason to bid flyback and that is if you are awarded it you may fly on vacation days that otherwise you would not be able to. So when you see my name on the flyback list in Nov. please know that I will not be taking one minute from someone needing one minute to call O/T...By the way, will there be such a thing as O/T with the new RSV.?

Overflying is unacceptable, especially with people furloughed. This is one area where I wish the company would really crack down.

daybeforecommuter:

There will be no O/T on reserve with the new system. No way to check for errors, no way to know when or if you might get called. At 3:01 you could be the most JR reserve with 00:00 hours and your phone rings with a 4 day. Or, you could be the most senior reserve and your phone doesn't ring at all. It will be a guessing game.

Lightyears:
Why would the company care about overfly? They can do more with less so trying to get them to do something is hard. They don't care.

daybeforecommuter...thanks for your post! :D

My concern with flyback right now is that the Co continues to furlough people, knowing that they are working with skeleton crews as it is. When we accept flyback at this junction we are telling the company.. "hey, it's ok, I'll just work more for ya so we can get through this tough time. Sure go ahead and furlough more, we really don't need all of these extra f/a's." So they can continue to put people out on the street knowing that we will just fly through our vacation and help them get over a bump in the road.

Believe me, my concern is not calling O/T, but the simple fact US has cut way too many f/a's. Telling the Co "NO CAN DO" with vacation flyback will send a message that they need to make due with the staffing shortages that THEY created.
