New City...hot off the press.

My guess is a removal of the ban on through ticketing in fairly short order which would allow DAL-ABQ-LAX etc, with a phased out repeal of the whole deal within three years. May be some gates at DAL closed as part of the deal.

I have heard that somewhere before about repealing Wright and then closing gates at DAL to restrict growth. If it came to that, would Southwest be forced to give up gate space to any new entrant to the airport? If not, it seems closing gates would only help WN because they would have an even stronger monopoly on DAL.

What you've heard is the "red herring" that DFW and AMR are dangling in front of Love Field and WN. Closing gates and allowing unlimited flights would just change the problem with the Wright Ammendment.

If WN was stupid they'd agree. WN realizes it needs gates--and that it can't have all gates at LUV--so the deal will not happen. WN will keep pressing for a repeal.

Just a few months ago in '05 there was 'talk' about Charlotte becoming an SWA destination, as soon as gates become available. Has Charlotte been sidelined, or is it a long term 'coming soon' destination similar to Ft. Myers taking almost 2 years to finalise.

Don't forget, Richmond was also supposed to be 'coming soon' back in '01 when ORF was announced as a new city. Still hasn't occured. Plans change...

With 36 planes in 2007 and no retirements scheduled as of now, how many cities should we look for SWA to bring online? just wondering..........

According to all reports, IAD will be it for 2006 (in addition to DEN). You've gotta figure that they've got plenty of growth opportunities at DEN, PHL, PIT, BWI, LAS, PHX, MCO, TPA, etc. in just connecting the dots. Plus I think we'll continue to see service added back at MSY as New Orleans slowly rebuilds.

Will IAD serve PHL? You would think not, but then again, you never know. I'd be curious to see if thats in the cards.
