Did anyone else notice that Mr. Lakefield is US' new CEO, NOT President and CEO. You know what that means, we'll have a new President as well, sooner rather than later I'd imagine.

Good observation. Perhaps it means nothing, but with Lakefield's lack of experience in the industry, it makes sense. Perhaps we'll see someone with strong operational experience named to be president. It also makes for a smoother transition in the future - recognizing that Lakefield is not the youngest person ever to be named CEO. Personally, I think it's a good idea for a company like U to have a strong finance person and a strong ops person together at the top. Assuming they work well together, this should provide more focus on each of these vital areas and an opportunity to implement changes more quickly and effectively.

For the long-term, provided unions agree to participate in the new business plan designed to dramatically boost productivity and drive down unit costs, then I expect a new CEO or COO to be named with potential candidates former Continental president Greg Brenneman, current board member and former United Airlines president Rono Dutta, and US Airways’ senior vice president of corporate planning and express Bruce Ashby.

However, with the changing economic climate, after Lakefield’s work is complete, Brooner could decide it may be in the best interests of RSA to sell or merge the company.

then so be it...we will all awaken from this long long nightmare and get on with life.
there is life after U, ;) i'm told....

.........nest to the last paragraph follows......

In addition to becoming chief executive Monday, Lakefield was named president by the airline, which neglected to publicize the additional title, said spokesman Dave Castelveter. The oversight led some to conclude the president's post was open.
