Two press releases today:
http://aa.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=3501

http://aa.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=3500

------------------------------------------
Summary....

  • Denise Lynn being promoted to SVP - People, replacing Jeff Brundage who is either retiring or leaving... not clear in the announcement (my opinion: expected... perhaps a quite delayed sacrifice to the unions for the "bricks in a backpack" comment from 18 months ago...)
  • Dave Brooks (VP Cargo, HDQ) retiring and replaced by Kenji Hashimoto (VP - Alliances) (my opinion: not likely to be replaced, especially if Cargo is outsourced)
  • Mark DuPont (VP Airport Services, HDQ) retiring (my opinion: not likely to be replaced by a VP)
  • Susan Garcia (VP ITS) retiring (my opinion: not replaced with her current MD's will likely direct report to CIO)
  • Andrew Watson (VP ITS Customer Technology) retiring (my opinion: expected, he was brought in by Monte Ford, not likely to be replaced)
  • Doug Herring (VP Operations Finance and Strategy Planning) position eliminated, will remain thru end of the year (my opinion: none at the moment... Doug has been around for a while, may be bridging until retirement?)
  • VP - NYC & VP International are being combined into a single position (NYC is vacant with Art Torno moving to MCLA, not being backfilled)

Total VP count: to be determined....

All I'd like to know is how many of the VPs on a per-aircraft basis? Talk about a truckload of bricks - one could build a 100 acre castle.

What little I've read from within the proceedings hints that Herr Brundage didn't perform as well as he should have on the witness stand re: the "people hosing". That may be what got him moved toward the door - certainly not any comment he made. COC (Crap Over Comments) treatment is reserved for people the twu wants to scare into silence.

E, hang around the aa media room as long as you can and let us know when Horton is leaving.

Denise Lynn is stepping into the lion's den. Based on my dealings with her, she better grow a thick skin, and fast (unlikely, though) or she's going to be eaten alive by the wrath of three unionized work groups. I'm going to enjoy watching her incompetently struggle toward her ultimate demise.

No thanks. The only reason I posted was emails & text messages came flying out of HDQ faster than you'd see "free" BBQ disappear at a union rally....

I've worked with Denise in the past. I think she'll do fine compared to those who came before her.

Bye bye Brundage! This "brick" says don't let the door hit ya on the $&@ on you're out!

Betcha Horton had a lil' chit-chat with a chain smoking guy (originally) from Westerly Rhode Island ?

Any takers ?

Eaten live? The company is in the drivers seat now, the unions are in the fetal position. I'm sure she'll be fine.

Unfortunately, Brundage is staying as an "advisor" to D. Lynn until new contracts are finalized--negotiated or forced upon us by the courts.

From his "letter" to employees...

Brundage wrote:

"They say that all good things come to an end, and I’m not quite there yet. But I’m close. Let me explain.

I took this job with clear direction and a direct commitment to navigate our employee groups through one of the most trying, troubling and tumultuous times in this industry or any other. I believe that when we have put in place the employee changes critical to the success of American’s restructuring, it will be time for a change – for me, for you and for our airline.

I’m determined to see this process through because addressing our employee cost disadvantages it is the right thing to do for our future. But, the other key work of our department must continue uninterrupted, and I’m thrilled to share that Tom Horton has chosen Denise Lynn to lead the charge."

Note following statement: "Brundage will stay on as a senior advisor as the carrier goes through the Section 1113 bankruptcy process to reject its labor contracts."

Translated into the English: "If you think I'm leaving before I get to see the union groups screwed royally, ya gotta another think coming. My departing bonus depends upon it."

Looking at the latest org chart on AA.Com, AA is now down to 39 executives excluding Garton and Brundage (I'm still assuming he is gone once the S1113 dust settles).

Executives were at either 47 or 48 when the bankruptcy filing took place.

A 20% cut implies 9 heads disappearing. Since March, 6 heads were eliminated, in addition to Arpey and Reding.

Assuming one of the base VP's goes away when AFW closes, they'll have their 9 heads.
