In reading a recent article in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, I came across this;

"Currently, the average pay for a Mesaba captain is about $45,000 a year, mechanics earn $45,260 annually on average and a six-year flight attendant makes $21,276, according to union figures."

First off, I cannot believe that the average pay for a captain is so low, but even more so, the fact that a mechanic makes MORE?!? Can anyone confirm these numbers? Seems absoultely CRAZY to me.....

That may be correct. The RJ85 captain's made about
double that 45,000 figure but most, if not all of those
aircraft are no longer in service. Only other aircraft
Mesaba flies is Saab. The mechanic salaries were
also based on repairing both types of aircraft and
have not been affected yet by the grounding of Avro's.

Now you may have an understanding why Mesaba employees
are not willing to accept the paycuts that are being
offered.

Also the parent company of Mesaba, Mair Holdings
has taken Mesaba's profits over the years and
hidden these assets. How else can they explain
the salary paid its President/CEO Paul Foley.

Current web-sites list a 6th year (most junior) captain on the SF340 for Mesaba at $52/hour at a 75hr guarantee. That's $46,800/year. The fo's about $31,000 at 5 years seniority. That's the highest salary on the Saab in the industry. MX usually have more seniority and flight attendants usually don't! Sorry don't have any of their details. - BCD

A 6th year F/A at $22,000 - OUCH!!!! You can almost make more at Port of Subs/Subway after that long. DAMN!! just my thoughts.......
