Its not just senior management/union problem.Mostly
I believe its a union/lower level management problem.
Bill Norman from line maintenance in SFO decided after
after 9/11 that all technicians will work 6on 2 off.
Seemingly for no other good reason than he can make us
do it.Before we were working 4on 2off numerically its
the same 80 hr pay period. There are other issues here at
play like maybe personal feelings I believe.People
need leaders they respect not just Tilton in far away
ORD,but people on the line we deal with everyday and that
is a internal issue the company with ten Tiltons will
never deal with.UAL in their initial proposal did the wrong
thing by using outlandish proposals the IAM membership
would never accept, and probably engendered a lot of no
votes. If the recent proposal is reasonable hopefully my bethren
will keep an open mind as I will do.

I have to agree with you completely. When I say I have a problem with management, 99% of the time I am talking about immediate supervisor/op manager level folks. To many of these folks have set up little kingdoms within UAL, and are definately not held accountable by their management teams, or, by WHQ for that matter.

Fox News is reporting that the IAM and UAL have a tentative deal.

Anyone heard anything about it?

Maybe this can give us all some hope.

United, machinists closer
By The Associated Press

Monday, November 18, 2002 - Updated 3:15 p.m. - Intensifying its push to avoid bankruptcy, United Airlines closed in today on a tentative wage-cutting agreement with its 36,000 machinists - the key missing element in its plan to slash labor costs by $5.8 billion over 5 1/2 years

Hey Gearpin its all rather funny
timing isnt it? 1989 people never really
made a-scale like you said the esop showed
up.Then after all the c,d,hmv's have been
done they cant afford us anymore.Esop stock
driven done to nothing by upper management,
and last but not least impending doom with
a BK threat.I realize the company needs to
turn a profit but when we did make money
we had to practically beat them over the
head for a lousy 2% mid-term wage adustment
because they only offered 3%.These people
only care about money, and they want to keep
it all for themselves and have us pay for
the airline over,and over again.

Indiana gave UAL a low interest loan to open the facility. So...UAL pays some back to the state, city and county in penalties. The benefits UAL recieved were huge compared to fines.

Just think of how many HMVs and C-checks were completed using B-scalers. 1,000 or so B-scalers were hired to do the maintenance. This was cheaper than even farming the work out. When we all got too pricey for UAL, bye bye work and bye bye mechanics.

I recall mechanics (89-90 hire group) saying that they were A-scale only for days, weeks or they never made it as ESOP showed up on there door. Too convienent. Hire them then fire them. United only wants what suits the bean counters...it's business not romance.

TO: THE MEMBERSHIP OF DISTRICT LODGE 141-M EMPLOYED BY UNITED AIRLINES

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

District Lodge 141-M representatives and United Airlines’ Company representatives met today in South San Francisco. The company submitted a new recovery plan proposal. The District 141-M Executive Board, the Recovery Plan Negotiating Committee, as well as our legal and financial advisors will meet Wednesday, November 20th to discuss the merits of this proposal. A response to United Airlines will be forthcoming.

Sincerely and fraternally yours,

Scotty Ford
President and General Chairman

Somebody should be made to explain way they are not. Get them in there with plenty of coffee, and don't let them out even rest room breaks until the job is done.

A balance has to be met between growth and stability. As an Employee Owner I demand it.

kcabpilot, thanks.

GGpillow,

That's because there are just as many kingdoms built up here at WHQ. THAT will hopefully be addressed when the fat is trimmed with the upcoming furloughs.

Eagle,

I share your frustration but I think you can take it as a sign that they are VERY close to a deal. From what I've heard from a couple of informed people, they've agreed on most of the deal, just a few sticking points remain. So chances are, the IAM will just have to run the company's latest ERP proposal by their economic advisors, who will run the numbers to see where it stands. I'm betting that the fact that they're not meeting continually means they're very close to an agreement and it's just a matter of the proposal numbers being crunched to meet a mutually agreable solution. Just my take. I'd expect a T/A possibly as early as later today.

Anybody have any thoughts about
our pilots flying MM's work to
non-union scab repair stations?

Do you really think the pilots care? As long as they are flying and getting a check they will fly anything anywhere. Pilots always tell me they are behind us. Just don't bend over. It still comes down to each group looking out for their best interest. Pilots flying are in their best interest even if it means taking another group’s work to an OSV or foreign country.

I probably opened a can of worms here.

Somebody is flying them to a certain
communist country.Heard the a-checks down
in Mex the planes come back like the
checks havent been done.Plus a lot of work
in South America. You think if a mech in one
of these countries(of course non-union) can
put up to much of a fight if they are told
to 'PENCIL WHIP' a particular writeup?? The
contractor can just find another yes man to
do the job and that guy wont have any rice or
tortillas to feed his 10 kids.Like the 47's
coming back from Hong Kong I remember just
like a a-check hadnt been done in awhile.
You would think the pilots would care since
its their butts that spend most of the time
on the aircraft.Me I dont fly that much.
