if they added the 14.7 plus the 99.5 that equals to 114.2 so if that is why usair claims it needs form the iam why dont it implement it right away and that may just stave off ch11 at least for now???

Simply put ,

This companies leadership is far too arrogant to listen to anyones views or suggestions. $115 Million in savings is NOTHING to sneeze at in light of our condition , note that I do not use the phrase "Present Condition"

Our problems have always been there....it's just the current market conditions that magnify the impact of the multitudes of stupid choices that have been made by no more than profit and run leaders.

U has had a history of NEVER listening to its employee's , yes the very people whom have to make it work regardless of how ill concieved or implemented whatever plan it may be?

I will refer everyone back to the days of things called "Self-Directed" work groups...or "Ideas that Fly" , both had great merit , but it bruised the egoes of the shallow minded....and lent great credence to the claims that U is overly heavy with both excecutive and middle management positions...few if any of these positions actually produce anything of any discription.

U's problems are NOT its workers , nor is it the cost of the workforce. U is a broken business model period , and until the day comes that the powers that be recuse themselves of their hold on things , little will change beyond the workers wages and actual number of said workers. The latter two being the entire goal in this exercise of futility to begin with.

 Why isnt THE IAM fighting to get the jobs back at BTV STL DAY MEM AVP
BGM AS MAINLINE EXPRESS ,IT SEEMS LIKE THEY ONLY FIGHT FOR THE EXISTING
WORK FORCE AND FORGET ABOUT ALL THE GUYS AND GAILS THAT WERE LAYED
OFF .THEY PAID THERE DUES FOR YEARS AND GET NO REPRESENTATION.

28,

It would be a great thing to have all 45,000 plus employee's back to work..but sadly the fight now is for survival of what remains at the moment...and that requires being omni-focused when dealing with these characters.

The IAM has a fight on its hands with the Airbus debacle...and fending off them taking even more jobs and pay away. The focus has to be on what's most dire and in your face at the moment.

I would love to see the IAM prevail on all fronts....cuz if they don't? It's going to be game over for the entire workforce. The best that can be hoped for is a change in our so-called leaderships way of thinking (which I don't see happening)..and then maybe some of the furloughee's will have somewhere to come back to via natural attrition within the ranks...allbeit at a different station obviously.

Frankly...as point to point flying becomes more of a focus....and RJ's as they invision will rule the skies , the chances of some of the small stations you mentioned ever returning to "Mainline" workers control are about ZERO..or into the sub-zero range.

PIT is to no longer be a hub in the not so distant future...so more and more of what we have already seen and endured is in the offing for many. I do not think the IAM 'ers are going to be the only ones feeling the pain either.

I'm sure thier are thousands in other labor groups whom have paid their dues that feel as you do as well.....I share your frustraition in all aspects , but the fight in front of you is what has to be contended with and when and if U survives? , the focus can then shift to increasing the ranks as the company hopefully prospers and hopefully grows again.

Right now WE as a company and WE as the working class are fighting for what remains of a job with a living wage. The next 30 days should tell the story or seal the fate for all of us , both active and furloughed.

The IAM's savings is a joke. They suggest they can save something like 50 million dollars for parts inventory?? That's amazing considering the company only spent a little over 40 million on that department to begin with. What's next?? Are they going to turn water into wine??

I guess you have no clue, an engine alone goes for millions. US spends more then $40 million a year in parts.

But I guess you are an expert and know the price of every single part in stock. The cost of downtime of the airplane and labor.

You asked for proof you got it and it is still not good enough for you.

You sound like management.

If the numbers were legit they'd be fine but some of the numbers given to management as a response were handwritten on a single page. No way were they thought out in any way. I may have mispoken if it was parts or not but there was a line that they said they could save 50 million and the total budget for that area was a little over 40 million. Now you explain to me how that can be if those numbers were so thoroughly gone over by the wiz kids at the IAM??
You provided no proof. All you provided was propaganda.
You sound like a broken record. Skip, skip, skip, skip, skip, skip.

The Strategic Resources department of the IAM did provide the company with detailed cost analysis of the breakdown of the ideas submitted prepared by Beth Alemdia.

But since you were not there I guess you did not see the professional report provided to the company.

Keep Trying, you sound like a broken record. Skip, skip, skip, skip, skip, skip.

Strategic Resources?? Now that's funny!! They actually have a strategy?? Could've fooled me!
Professional report huh?? What did they do switch from crayons to washable markers?? The response the IAM provided the company was on one page and some of the figures were hand written. That you can't refute but keep trying. I think I've come up with a new nickname for you. I'll just call you Skip from now on.

According to Forbes, US Airways said the IAM's "proposals would not be sufficient to help avoid what'd be the carrier's second bankruptcy in two years."

See Story

Keep trying, you have no idea of what you are talking about. If you say it was handwritten produce it.

Strategic Resources.

The mission of the Strategic Resources Group is to help position the IAM for growth and increase the union's capabilities of improving worklife and the standard of living for IAM members well into the next century. The Group provides support to IAMAW officers, field representatives and organizers through research, analysis, and strategic advice on a wide variety of topics.

As a vital resource to our leadership and headquarters departments, the Group's primary responsibilities include maintaining a comprehensive database of IAM collective bargaining agreements; providing accurate and timely analysis in support of bargaining, organizing and legislative initiatives; and participating in the development of strategic approaches to complex problems facing our members.

Our Research Economists handle over 700 requests each year from IAM field representatives and headquarters staff. Staff economists Joe Thayer, Beth Almeida and David White, handle a wide variety of information requests. While most requests deal with organizing and collective bargaining, the economists also provide on-site support to negotiations and deliver various programs and workshops to field staff.

The department also has extensive expertise in employee benefits. Neil Gladstein, our Assistant Director, has spent many years analyzing pension, savings and profit sharing plans. Neil has participated in a number of negotiations since joining the IAM's Strategic Resources department and also teaches pension and advanced collective bargaining classes at the IAM's Education and Training Facility.

The IAM has over 5,000 collective bargaining agreements that represent workers in a wide variety of industries. The job of maintaining the contract database and analyzing trends in negotiations falls to five dedicated research associates and analysts — Don Pittman, Margo Howe, and Gwendolyn Camp. All have worked for the IAM for many years and bring a wealth of experience to their jobs. A team of three data information specialists — Gail Carpenter, Karen Fox and Rose Barksdale — provide essential support to maintaining the IAM contract database and Mary Berry handles the paper flow through the library. Strategic Resources also has a dedicated crew of office support staff in Elaine Chaney, Teresa Canning and Ruth Aker.

Taken together, under the direction of Steve Sleigh, the Strategic Resources team provides essential services to IAM field representatives on a daily basis.

Maybe if you took the time to educate yourself instead of attacking the IAM you might sound halfway intelligent.

Boy you sure cleared that up with your cut and paste. Once again you provide nothing here but I guess that's what you're best at. That's one area the IAM has trained you well in and that's supplying propaganda. You want me to produce a one page piece of paper that probably came from the back of a McDonalds bag? If I could do that believe me I would rub it in your face but fortunately for you I don't have that "Professional Document". I think you're the one that needs an education here. Your posts are looking more and more desperate.
