In all fairness, if Seigel were still around, I don't know that MDA would have been sold off. I do believe Dave (like Rakesh) really wanted to run a succesful airline, and not be packaging it off for sale piece by piece...

I don't. What made you believe Seigel wanted to run the airline.? If he could have sold US he would have. He never came across to me as "sincere". "Call me Dave" and his Austin Powers b.s. laughing all the way to the bank. Also, US was never for sale in pieces.
