Low-wage Delta workers in NYC set for raise

it's ok to question DL... but those who want to question DL should also be asking why other airlines haven't done the same thing. The more heavily unionized airlines haven't done it.

How dare you bring unionized airlines into this!

Kev:  How dare you question the great, powerful and magnanimous Delta Air Lines.     :D

DL just wanted to get this news out before the Monday press release that SEIU has selected DL as its preferred carrier due to its large number of First Class seats in major cities like NYC, LA and WAS.  Those SEIU officials have to travel in style.
Lol.

I know, I know; less critical thinking, more glassy eyes...

Not on here apparently...

You can try and divert attention from the topic...
I'm sure he'll get right on that.

While we're waiting, can you explain how the following directly relate to the topic? ICYMI, the topic is carriers boosting the wage rate of their lowest paid workers/vendors.

you still haven't acknowledged that DL ground handles more RJ flights in ATL than most airlines have for mainline flights in their hubs.
And once again, DL has AW personnel in far more stations than any other of its network peers.

700 reiterated the comment he has made multiple times about BW at the MAT being outsourced.

I'd still like to see the timeline of when BW at the MAT was outsourced relative to when it became a large RJ operation. It should be clear that DL and US have tried to make the economics of the Shuttles work as Amtrak has taken more and more of the market. DL and US both have a lot of slots tied up operating the Shuttles and rumors persist that the BOS-LGA leg of the DL Shuttle is being reupgraded to mainline on the 717.

DL has given no indication of giving up the MAT which keeps the Shuttle as a separate product and gives DL a larger footprint that runs from one end of LGA to the other.

Yet DL still has just one-fourth of the employees or contractors affected by this wage increase.

This increase affects ALL airline employees and vendors operating at JFK and LGA. It's good that DL did the right thing since they are the biggest operator at the two airports. I'm quite sure that the vendors that do work for B6 and AA/US will be happy.

Why don't you ask Christie why he won't do it in EWR? Nothing from stopping him from doing it. AirServ; Gateway. ASIG; Airway; and the other vendors would be happy.

Bottom line is America deserves a raise.

BTW: I don't want to get too political, by your tag line of 17 billion dollars: 2 off the books wars and Medicare Part D. This mess was left over by the previous administration and now the Repugs are using the Jude Wineski's (by Paul Weyrich of the Heritage Foundation) "Two Christmases" plan of choking the government when there is a Democrat in office, while spending like madmen during a Republican administration. Facts is facts. Prove me wrong on that theory. This Congress won't let this President spend any money. We need a WPA program to fix this broken infrastructure like airports and the like. The PA just announced their plans for the airports this week. Freedom Tower took a ton of money from the Port's budget. This country is crumbling around us and people are ready to go to work (not for slave wages, though) to fix it.

Sorry about the rant, but I just can't let people get away with inaccurate statements or taglines.

sorry, but a comment was made which was designed to elicit a response. Feel free to jump in and cut off those comments first.

I would bet airlines would be alot more willing to invest in infrastructure if taxes on airline passengers would stop going up. Airline passenger taxes are some of the highest on a percentage basis and yet infrastructure continues to deteriorate.

You have to ask how European and Asian countries can have equal or lower percentage taxes and have much nicer facilities than US airports.

And of course any money that is sent to the government in the form of taxes is money that can't be spent on employees.

Kev,

Just think of this when it comes to a certain poster:

again, DL is the first major NYC carrier to initiate these increases.

Let me know when the next carrier adopts the increases.

Why bother letting you know when no matter what everything is good excellent for dl but all dirt n crap when other airlines do the same thing or similar is just never good or not worthy of it

Well then start offering Ready Reserve benefits let us know.

The article is about a pay raise for "low wage" workers in NYC. If other carriers do the same, all I asked for it to be noted here.

If peripheral discussions aren't welcome then that is all that we are focusing on here, right?

Where have I said that offering same total compensation package is inferior if it is offered at another carrier?

Your posts pretty much spells out that delta is inferior in every darn category and all of ths other airlines are crap.. guess what delta just like ual aa wn b6 etc all have the good the bad and the ugly.... just not everyone is gonna pay the same amt that another airline will pay but it will be competitive

Kevin,
with all due respect, this is a discussion board that necessarily involves divergent opinions.

What happens in the real world makes what happens here seem inconsequential in comparison.
