DFW Airport
Greetings all, I’m transferring to DFW hopefully in the middle of July. I’m a FSC and need a room on the bus or train line. Any help given would be appreciated. Thanks

To the OP...the good news is that there is both train and bus service from Dallas to the airport. (I know there is train service from Ft. Worth--the TRE--and there is probably bus service. I've provided Dallas to the airport links above.) The bad news is the time that it would take to get to the airport using either the bus or the train unless you lived in Irving or Euless or one of the suburb cities between Dallas and Ft. Worth that is either on the TRE or a bus route.

The only train that comes close to meeting your needs is the TRE (Trinity Railway Express). This is a train that runs between downtown Dallas and downtown Ft. Worth almost 24 hours/day. There are stops all along the route--some in residential areas, some in commercial areas. The DFW station is down at Centerport (where AMR headquarters is located), but there is a free shuttle bus from the station up to the terminals at DFW. There are bound to be apartments or rooming houses located along the route. I have a friend who used to ride the TRE rather than drive to DFW when we were both commuting to St. Louis. He lived in east Dallas on the other side of downtown Dallas from the airport. His trip required that he take a bus into downtown to the train station, take the train to Centerport, and take another bus up to the terminals. It took him something like 2 hours one way. I used it one time from the Dallas Hospital district station (about 5 miles west of downtown Dallas). The entire trip took me over an hour. By car in non-rush hour, the same trip takes about 20 minutes.

I went to the DART website and entered a query for a bus from downtown Dallas to DFW. The routing provided required that you take a DART rail train from downtown to Parkland Hospital station (less than 5 miles), transfer to a bus to the Remote South Parking lot at DFW, then transfer to another bus to get to the terminals. the DART website estimated total one-way travel time at 1 hour 46 minutes. I think that is optimistic because I don't think it allows for rush hour traffic.

You might try the DFW newspapers--Dallas Morning News or Ft. Worth Star-Telegram--for listings of rooms for rent then call and ask if the room is located on a bus line or near a TRE station.

Living in the DFW Metroplex without a car is possible, but it ain't easy.

Thanks for the info

Lots of apartments within walking distance of the Centerport TRE station, and the bus is free.

However... be aware it doesn't run on Sundays, and I'm not entirely sure about Saturdays, since the TRE doesn't run on Sundays and is on a reduced schedule on Saturdays.
