This ought to get you guys frothing at the mouth:

Despite the turmoil and American's uncertain future, Little said he remains convinced that the unions and the airline made the right decision five years ago.

"When you look at the industry and our competitors and where our employees stand, they're in a much better position than their counterparts," he said.

How could he say such a thing? AA's employees have it better than at UA? Better than CO or DL? Better than US?

Better off than at NW?

Of course what he forgets to say is that the twu set the concession bar so low that even UAL went back to the well for more, along with US. He kind of forgets to mention the labor cost advantage that AA has held for many years prior to the concessions because of twu contracts. But regardless, the end is near for the twu as they are in non-stop negotiations to finish the deal this week. If it looks like every other twu contract, we will start signing the FURP cards ASAP.

Mark my words.

If HC or Obama get in, we'll be buying OIL from HUGO at a decent price.

Hugo will be willing to do it, (Just to further embarrass the ORANGUTAN  who presently occipies "1600"), and me personally...................I couldn't ....give a sh!t less !!

"We wanted to preserve jobs, keep our work in-house and protect retirement and healthcare," Transport Workers Union president Jim Little told The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "So we were looking to make adjustments anywhere else we could... We thought we had dodged a bullet."

And this time, unions say, workers won't be so eager to help. "The employees aren't going to go back and gut the contract again," TWU's Little says. "That was a one-time deal."

TWU's one time deal started in 1946 and continues today.

Jeff Brundage, senior VP for human resources at American, helped the carrier negotiate the 2003 concessions. He believes if American is backed against the financial precipice, employees will once again lend a hand.

OH YEA? YOU THINK?

NH/BB's, Hugo is moving his country towards communism..Just ask the tens of thousands of Venezuelans who have have fled their country and moved to South Florida to prevent having what they earned and what is theirs from being taken by Hugo....But if you feel that dealing with him to embarrass a lame duck president who can't run again for office,, then by all means whatever makes you fell better.

Then maybe HC or Obama can sit down with Osama Bin Laden in his cave and beg him not to attack the US again in exchange for clemency...

We havent been attacked on US soil because of the dumb orangutang since 9-11..

Sorry Hopeful, but you give EL-CHIMPO  ...TOO much credit.

Think about HOW MUCH freight is moved thru JFK(over by you), and NOT fully know exactly whats inside.

OR, about the tens of thousands of Ship containers that are moved on the Docks in Brooklyn, or port Elizabeth NJ, that we don't know the contents of,......BECAUSE the GOP congress(from 2001-2006) FOUGHT like hell to defeat a Democratic bill, mandating that each and every container be expected.

The reason Hopeful(my friend) is that we've been lucky 60/75% of the time(IMHO), while Homeland security HAS had "some" effectiveness.

Well, I guess we better support Bush to invade Venezuala after we are done with Iran, oh, and Iraq and Afghanistan. Just remember, the Bushes are big fans of the Bin Laden family, business partners and all in the oil business for years. We didn't let the fact that most of the 9/11 guys were from Saudi Arabia interfere with our plans to destroy Iraq. Saudi Arabia, the religious dictatorship where public beheading are the norm, is our ally. But Venezula is an evil-doer, like Cuba. Boy, are we messed up.

Little's right; what other option did you have? Go through bk and have your pay and benefits gutted by the courts?

Sadly, all of this has happened before and all of this will happen again. The industry's current pricing model/strategy was not designed for sustained $100+ oil. We've seen five carriers go down in less than two months. More will follow. Compromise or die.

I've subsidized trips to disney world for the past 5 years, now it's your turn to pay. The pricing model is wrong, the fares are way too cheap.

NO! There were options.

HOW the TWU came up with the ground worker share of the sacrifice was a UNION decision.

The choice.

Reduce Capacity and RIF employees still having to give some in pay/benefits/work rules.

Or

Strip the contract of 50 years of pay and benefits to save jobs and keep the capacity in the air.

Given the fact that now time has gone by, two things come to my minid.

#1. Yes, we are better off than we would have been going through BK.

#2. Saving Jobs and Capacity was the WRONG choice. In Capitalist Economy, supply and demand dictates pricing. Saving the job, and not reducing capacity was not only a stupid decision by the TWU and Jim Little, but Don Carty has to be one of the worst Airline CEO's on the planet to allow the "union" to decide how to save a corporation from BK.

I do not disagree in total with Jim Little that we are indeed better off than had AA gone BK, but I completely disagree that the method he led the union down to come with the TWU share of the concessions and the result has by far made the airline and the industry as a whole a worse place to be employed.

Jim Little and the TWU chose to give away the farm in pay and benefits to save jobs which in turn meant capacity still flies today. That over capacity is still the problem today and why the airline industry is in complete malfunction and on the brink of unrecoverable problems.

If the Airlines can merge and reduce capacity in 2008, and if AA can sell off investment fims, American Eagle, then so too could that have been done in 2003 instead of shafting the employees and leaving the profession in a complete reduction in the standard of living that may well never be recovered.

Contrary to what is being posted here, there were choices, and Jim Little failed us all.

And Organized Labor claims to protect the middle class  Not the TWU version of organized labor
