Layoffs in Pit announced

Is there any chance they are going to offer a buy out to the guys in PIT?
They got a lot of old timers up there that might want to leave thus not putting anyone in a position to bump to another station.

Yes there is a buyout in Pit. 15 weeks severance and they will allow you to collect unemployment. They will be lucky to get 5 or 6 to bite on that. So it comes down to say a $15,000 sweetner. Now I see PHX and CLT starting to notice some cuts as expected. This is old news already in Pit and it was just the tip.

or put another way.Why are the US mech's in SAN getting abolished while the AA mech's there remain untouched?
You do realize they are still two separate companies and workforce correct?

In my 20 years, I was hired in TPA, bumped and abolished many times, I worked in MIA, TPA, CLT and PHL.

So I know what its like first hand experience.

And also been bumped down to a lower classification twice.

So I know what they are going through.

Have you experienced it?

So I have had to commute and move myself.

Yeah me too. Been abolished three times at three station closings, bumped out of station twice, one paid move, one unpaid move, commuted by air once, and commuted 100 miles plus by road twice, one of which I'm doing now. But for me the end is in sight ,my calendar is marked. I'm glad to see the company announce the big moves that are coming with the mech group at US, it's good to be in the know with all the cutbacks and additions. But the SAN situation just doesn't smell right! There's a story, I suspect, and hope someone can shed some light on it.  Peace and Love

I'm thinking Company is just pissed with the IAM and just being vindictive and cutting where they wish as long as it does not violate the contract....too much!!!   Also wonder why a VP can make a statement it causes "logistics problems" flying an airplane into a heavy maintenance check manned by company mechanics at a city served by mainline while no mention of the costs and problems of ferrying an empty aircraft to San Salvador?  Must be part of the "Big Picture " we keep hearing about....

Lots of "I" in this post.

AA just hired 2 AMTs off the street about a month ago at SAN
Sounds like AA is eliminated dual maintenance at each station.
The company either has AA or USAir before all is said and done when they wrap up the merger in a year or two.

PHL and BOS have AMT openings on the internal careers page of Jetnet for US Airways and a Base Maint. Manager position in PIT!?!?
