Layoffs in Pit announced

What about heavy?

So in the long run, its a gain of jobs.

Everyone can see the writing on the wall for PIT Heavy.

The numbers above are LM only.  The printout said LM headcount to remain at current 2328 after all movement.  No gains, just reshuffle.

I'm hearing -53 in PIT Heavy and -40 in CLT Heavy.  Take all of it with a grain of salt, your mileage may vary.

I just spoke to my son's mother who works in Distribution, and they were told CLT Heavy to increase headcount.

Getting mods and drop-ins.

So does anyone know if PHX hangar is part of line or a separate bid area?

And if you do the math, its a gain of 94 jobs for line.

Well I certainly wouldn't want to disagree with a source like that.

We're hearing Heavy losing 40 jobs, possibly 3 bays to go to Line ac.  Like I said, we'll see what shakes out in March when bids go up.

She is a steward and involved, two lines of heavy, and two or three lines of drop-ins and mods, taking some line work, since the line hangar is overwhelmed.

And there is no need to be smug about it, I am just telling you what management and planning are telling the members.

"I am just telling you what management and planning are telling the members"......That folks in a nutshell is what is really disappoints me about our so called Union...The IAM.....what management tells us...I'll Ask Management......where is the Union...why can't they tell the members...this Union has been in bed with the company way too long!!  Should have gone by the wayside during the vote, but we could lose the mighty pension!!!  Take a look at what happened with our Union brothers in Seattle...the writing is on the wall!!!

As for PHX, line mtc is considered 491 only....431,433 overhaul, sheet metal ect and should not be part of line maintenance headcount

PHX doesnt have heavy like CLT and PIT, they do line work and c-checks.

And the union cant do anything till the company informs then now can they?

And under the CBA the company sets the staffing levels, not the union, nor does the union tell them where they put the work, the CBA specifies the parameters

In bed?

You are delusional.

Boeing is a total different case, they are under the NRLA, and it was a new offer that they voted on, it wasnt the same as the first vote.

And the membership spoke with the vote, and you would have no accrued any future benefits if the IAM was voted out in regard to the pension, thats a fact.

Why is there a work area 491,491a,431,432, 485 in PHX....Line Mtc is 491, Avionics 491A, perhaps the others are considered support shops?  But the memo put out by the company specifies line mtc.

In Boeings case, the initial offer was voted down by the local, offer was sweetened by the company, local did not even want to vote on the contract, they were overruled by the International.....International used the words "scared, confused"...sound familiar? Circa 1992? Just vote till you get it right...passed by 51-49 amazing....Plant was shut down and many members on vac...Nice guys in the International even allowed electronic voting...last time I asked was told it was against the bylaws....International made an exception???  Absolutely nothing to do with the possibility of losing 25+K members dues I'm sure...

The company sure shows a lot of respect for the Union when the planners know before our so called leaders...

AP,  You will not lose your pension if you guys were to replace the IAM.  Would the future accruals stop?  Not sure of that one either.  It should be covered in your contract.  But if it does not state in your contract that the accruals will stop if you replace the IAM then that statement would be false as whomever took over your contract would still have to fulfill the contract.  I would be willing to bet the IAM does in fact have language covering this issue, if not, then no matter who was to take over the contract, the pensions would still have to be used for the duration of the contract.  I would bet that there is verbiage covering this as most all the industrial unions would rather screw their members if they were voted out than to maintain or keep the pensions going.  Just another way to threaten the membership into staying with the union and scare tactics so the membership will not be so eager to replace them.  It all to keep the dues flowing...

Like I you would keep what was accured, except the new hires who didnt have five years would lose it all, and the people who were vested would lose future accruals, that was stated and the pension put out letters on it.

There was nothing in the M&R CBA covering it, yet the ramp had language on what would happen if they werent in the IAM anymore

I'm aware of the rules governing the pension, believe me, if the money earned so far with your IAM pension is going to make or brake you at retirement then you are in a world of hurting.  Just thinking the pension will be gone the next 1 or 2 contracts anyway.  Very poor excuse if that is all they have to argue with..."the pension"..

Besides that AP, I really don't see the pension staying after merger into new AA.  And like you said, within 2 more contracts it will be gone anyways, your right.  Seems like all pensions (including pilots and F/A's) will all be switched to another type fund(s).   The part that I would have a question about is the employees who have already been there for say 20-30 years that would have a significant kitty built up in their pensions.  I guess most will answer that they could transfer those funds.  This is exactly why I would never have a union that wants to do the pension for the group as they hold that against the members trying to get rid of them, just like the teamsters ALWAYS do and like the IAM is doing now at US.  But your right AP, who cares if they lose the pension, just move the fund to another type and start a different plan (retirement).  Hell, start IIRA, and throw 10% per month in it, 15% whatever you can afford.   Whatever you guys decide to do, rather firing the IAM and bringing in AMFA or whoever, good luck to you guys and you might wanna act quickly as the AA are getting all their cards up to date for this up coming Alliance BS vote where they will try to force the members into the alliance with their scare tactic saying it's alliance or no union at all,  again good luck to you guys, your gonna need it...

CLT Heavy might be increasing headcount, seems they are going to two tracks of heavy and then more drop-in work.

So in reality with the new planes and the 734 retirements, PIT and CLT both lost one track each, but CLT is going to be doing a line of mods and drop ins.
CLT Heavy is losing headcount. Somewhere around 47 mechs and 5 leads.
