A very well written article about this industry and the merger mania set to happen. It discusses how Labor has the leverage at this point to regain the lost wages due to 911 and mismanagement. This is a useful resource of information to pilots, ramp rats, stews, and mechanics. Of Particular note, it pounds on USAIRWAYS as a company that has screwed up its labor talks.

Tim, by now you know very well why there are no agreements with the larger unions at U. The employees are at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to wages and benefits. With this in mind there is absolutely no reason for them to rush and change this. They pretty much know that they will be left out of the merger mania. One of the reasons that they are being left out is probably that they don't have agreements in place. The company is approaching 3 years since the merger announcement and no agreements with the bigger unions. Think about it, if you had a company with the lowest pay and benefits in place would you want to change things? Remember the complaints that the passengers have about this airline. Look how long it took to get any changes in place. Do you think that they are going to move any faster for their employees, You know the ones that keep this company running everyday.
