What's new

June traffic up for AA

I find it hard to understand how you take broad economic issues and aim your hatred directly at your employer, even though your employer shows remarkable restraint in that same subject. It doesn't make any sense.

To compare what the CEOs of some companies are making on a yearly basis to what Arpey makes is a joke. The CEO of my company made well over $2 million in salary and over $10 million in options. That is outrageous, especially when the company is much easier to run than AA.

DING DING DING, we have a winner. Very well said!!!

The hatred for our employer has nothing to do with todays "broad economic issues"
The hatred comes from years of concessions in order to subsidize the countless assanine decisions that have been made over the years. The massive concessions to offset fuel prices is just another chip off the old block.

Airline employee concessions come directly from the fact that the industry went from being one that was regulated to deregulated. The industry has changed and the salary structure has changed with it. This is just plain fact.

Either your salary is lower or your job just wouldn't exsist today. There is no scenario in which airline pay would stay the same (inflation adjusted) as 1978 and have the airline exsist, no matter how good the management decisions.

If the CEO of your company is making all that money Im sure your pension and medical benefits are as good as or better than his. After all if he is making all that money your company must be rolling in the dough 😉

Actually, my 401k match and medical are not as good as they were at AA, though my salary increase makes up for it.

And yes, my company is rolling in cash, percentage wise it is one of the most profitable companies in the world. Though I don't think it has that much to do with the CEO.

Then you could save millions of dollars a year by getting rid of him

Tell that to the mechs at Soutwest 😉

Southwest mechanics never worked in regulated environment. Besides that, if the mechanics union were able to voted on the exact contract that Southwest has, they would vote it down, because you'd have to fire about half of all the mechanics.

if the mechanics union were able to voted on the exact contract that Southwest has,.
Correction, we don't have a mechanics union, we have a company sponsored dues collection association, run by former members of management and worshipped by punks, drunks, cowards, and those with management aspirations. Just wanted to clear that up. 😛

Southwest has been around for 30 years. I dont get your point

if the mechanics union were able to voted on the exact contract that Southwest

We had the same contract that southwest had but it was taken away from us 18 months before the amendable date thanks to the without further ratification jimmy little dictatorship vote

if the mechanics union were able to voted on the exact contract that Southwest they would vote it down, because you'd have to fire about half of all the mechanics.

Why
would anyone get fired

Southwest, prior to deregulation only flew in the state of Texas. Since this was considered Intra-state commerce it was not subject to the regulated fares that the rest of the airline industry was subject to. Consiquently, Braniff and Trans-Texas tried to run Southwest out of business by lowering fares. So from day one, Southwest always had to be competitive and productive to stay alive.

He's wright about that. WN never had the benefit of the CAB setting their fare levels, so they had to build their business model around covering their operating costs from Day One.

Until the 2Q numbers are released next week, I'd hold off on saying that AA isn't making money on 85% load factors, despite having fuel at record highs. Fortunately for all, there's been a lot more traction as far as ticket prices go lately. Even WN jumped out there last week with $3-$10 fare hikes, which is pretty unusual historically.

Oneflyer,

Your response to Senor Pelon's statement was "a bit SNOTTY", would'nt you say ????

NH/BB's

And none of the other responses were remotely snotty or openly hostile?...

There's a great double standard here.

Union members, feel free to blast away on any topic that you're remotely informed on, as well as everything you're not.

Anyone not carrying the Holy Card of Unionism, down on your knees in shame and shut up, infadels that you are..
