I'm sure higher fares and fees had nothing to do with this, right?...

Jul 03, 2008 -- American Airlines and regional carrier American Eagle Airlines, both subsidiaries of AMR Corp (NYSE: AMR), have released their traffic statistics for June 2008.

Both airlines saw a fall in load factors for the month.

American Airlines recorded a June load factor of 85.5%, a decrease of 1.7 percentage points compared with June last year. The airline's passenger traffic was down 3.1 percent while its capacity was reduced by 1.2%.

Passenger traffic on American Airlines' domestic routes decreased by 4.7% year-on-year with 2.8% less capacity. On international routes traffic decreased by 0.1% while capacity was increased by 1.6%.

American Eagle said that its June load factor stood at 75.1%, a decline of 5.2 points from June 2007. The airline's traffic dropped 8.6% as capacity decreased by 2.3%.

American Airlines carried 8.4 million passengers in June, while American Eagle carried 1.8 million

Even WN is not immune. They reported a YOY June increase of 0.7% in traffic. However, their load factor dropped from 82.1% to 78.2% YOY because they have added a/c to the fleet in the past year. Increase in traffic did not match increase in seats available.

That being said, WN did show an increase.
