Fighting like Hell??

We will fight like hell to make sure that front line workers don't pay an unfair price for management's failings.
11/29/2011 letter from Little

James Little, International President of the Transport Workers Union, says his union is set to take the biggest hit in American’s restructure plan. 8,800 people altogether, between fleet service workers, mechanics and others. American’s 20 year-old maintenance operation at Fort Worth’s Alliance Airport is slated to close, taking its 2,200 employees. Little thought the number would be smaller because the union had already agreed to some job losses.

Little: The trouble I have sleeping is what happens to all the families that we represent and the employees at American impacted by us? It also impacts the community as well. You know, the loss of jobs, loss of the economic buying power in the region these people live in.

Somehow I don`t believe little is losing sleep over this. After all he has a nice untouchable six figure salary to ease his worry. If you are that bothered by it little, come on out to AFW and explain yourself.

The only sleep he's losing is his golden parachute may have gotten a Little smaller. F him and his croonies.
Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue !!!

For the last ten years, a frequent topic on this website has been "Should airline unions preserve every job no matter what that means for payrates or should the union throw some members under the bus if it means higher pay rates for the survivors?"

The answer depends, in many cases, on your seniority number and is a question where you'll never get complete or unanimous agreement.

Well here we are. Half of the AMTs will be gone. Those that remain on the property will see no real raise in pay. They will see a decrease in benefits.

A steel mill in Hamilton Ont. in the 80's gave the union two choices the top 500 or the bottom 25,000. Guess which one the union picked?

I'll not get into what I personally believe but - some manner of unholy alliance, much more than the "working together" BS, has been happening for many years where the twu seems to have dictated to AA's "management" the number of people to keep on the payroll for dues collection purposes, regardless of whether or not there was sufficient work for them. I've long said that if those employed would actually work for at least 5 hours per day, half of the workforce wouldn't have a job. Why a company would operate in that fashion only to end up in their present situation is beyond my ability to understand.

I've no doubt Little is taken aback as this doesn't seem to be business as usual - the company, for now, is taking the reins, perhaps only pro tem. We'll see where this goes when the dealing starts (unless it's already scripted) and the standard attempt (dog & pony show) to trade pay and benefits for dues income begins.

It's not an issue of "throwing the survivors under the bus", as you say, but ensuring those who are laid off may have a callback they can look forward to rather than laugh at should it happen.

With potential reduction in revenue to the International will the International employees have a RIF?

I think I will make a list for Local 514 to see where they fall and see if they are protected. Does a local officer have the same protection as an International Officer?

The funny thing about this is that Jimmy does not know the first thing about unionism but he is a expert Bootlicker/Co#ksu#ker and just has come to realization that these skills want work this time, now he wants to fight like hell what a joke. We have had are chances to kick these bootlikers to the curb and failed to get it done, so quit your complaining and suffer the consequences of your own actions. Now before anyone starts chirping I have fougth to remove these idiots from leadership and I will admit right now it's my fault because I did not do enough!

Go AMP!!

Unions Should never give up what its members fought hard to get. (pay, holidays, 12.5, recall, sick pay, vacation days, and on and on)!!!!!!!!!!

engtester,

The union isn't going to give up those benefits.

The judge is going to take them away!

DNTULSA

Once again, the Judge doesnt negotiate your CBA, he only rules on motions put before him.

How many times does this have to be explained?
