Is the end of USAir near?

I don't recall the pilots or FAs complaining to mgt a few years ago when CS was treated so miserably.

Agmedallion,

As a flight attendant, it bothered me a lot. We didn't have a forum to take our concern to management. Best I could do was be supportive of the CWA's organizing effort.

For all the chest pounding , full pay to the last day crowd . Pick up your local newspaper in the morning and go to the classified employment section and start reading . Hummm , lets see , Waffle House needs a 3rd shift cook , Cracker Barrel is hiring , SRJ Trucking needs a driver , Cass Co. needs a fork lift driver(must be certified)...the list goes on .
Oh , I forgot we're all highly trained and highly skilled airline employees , pilots , mechanics , flight attendants , and customer service types . Here is a job for us - Progress Technologies has an opening for an engineering position , minimum qualifications is a Masters in electronic engineering or a BS in electronic engineering with at least 5 years experience , high degree of proficiency with CAD program , be able to work well with others in R&D , starting pay .......$28,500 a year . Starting to get the picture ?
Folks its time to get your head out of the sand and look around . If U goes into Ch7 what are YOU going to do ? Better hope your spouse makes big $$ or you have a nice trust fund or pray you win the Super PowerBall . One thing is for sure , it cost money to live.....especially the life style many of us have grown accustom to .

Nice post OLDCROW,

I posted this to the United Airlines Board but I will, through experience, say it again just like you did:

Although I do not agree with UAL777flyers standard “ if you don’t like it, just quit” speech. I would like to add my two cents:

Before ALL of you tell management to go to hell and not take concessions, take a long hard look at your life and yourself. Your pride and arrogance are blinding you. Where will you go if you lose your job? Your pride tells you "I am talented, experienced and intellegent" and of course you are! But that does not mean squat when you are looking for a job that is not in the airline industry. Get your local Sunday paper and really look at it. What are you qualified to do? Send out 100 resumes and see if anyone responds. Put your resume on Monster.com and see if the phone ever rings. Then after 6 or seven months call you friends just to see if the phone is actually working. Take 10 to 15 percent off of what you make now and see if you can even find a job that pays that. Oh and benefits? See if you can find a company that has benefits half as good as what you have. Good luck! How about vacation? How does 1 week after one year sound. Think real hard about what you could lose.

Oh and by the way, it’s carnage out here on the street. That is why I have time to write such posts.

Thanks flaptrack , I've been thinking hard the past few days what will I do if or when the USAirway direct deposit no longer gets posted to my checking account . I pray cooking at Waffle House at 3am is not in the cards for me . People need to realize that the job market in many(if not most)parts of the country is very tight right now . My brother-in-law owns a lawn mowing service in Va. for the past 5 years . He said this year he is going broke because so many unemployed people are getting into the lawn mowing business . 3 years ago he was able to get $60 for an average size yard in a nice neighborhood , last year it dropped to $55 and this year he can only get $40 . Times are tough !
Yes , there is an amount of paycut when the hassle of my job at USAirways will no longer be worth it , but its not there yet . I guess everyone needs to figure out what they THINK they are worth . And when you feel you are not getting paid what you THINK you are worth go find another job that pays what you THINK you are worth .
I have been working on a plan "B" for my future over the past few months in case of Chap.7 , I'm finding out that I'm REALLY not worth what I THINK I am .

After reading each post included on the three pages of this topic, one thing appears very clear. The dividing line between those of the, "the company must go on," crowd, and the rest of us who are unwilling to roll over for yet another beating on command, is easily clarified. That line is simply the difference between those of us that understand the sun does not rise and fall strictly for the benefit of US Airways, and those so fearful of losing a pay check, that they are willing to sell their soul for it.
I can understand the pilots attitude, they after all have only a single skill, a skill that while paying extraordinary sums of money when used, is totally worthless to any company other than an airline. My fellow mechanics however, are another matter. You guys need to understand your worth, and a few simple facts. First of all, no good job will ever be found in the classifieds, that's a simple fact any job hunter worth their salt, will tell you right off. Second, being a skilled A&P will open hundreds of doors for you, but first you need to get out there, and knock on them. My point is, have some respect for yourself! Stop thinking only about the possibility of losing a job, weren't you looking for a job when US Airways hired you? You did it once, you can do it again if you have to, and who knows, it may just be the best thing to ever happen to you.
PS - No, I won't just quit for those of you willing to sell out, so management can give your pay over to their buddies!

[:((] flaptrack I must agree.....I walked away voluntarily several months ago. I thought I would have great luck finding something out there. I thought my 'airline' skills would open doors. Dozens of resume' sent lots o' thank you for your interest but.....what few jobs offered were $7-8 bucks an hour.My name is on 'file' and we will call if any openings become available....even civil service or state jobs are non-exist. I guess the bottom line is be afraid, very afraid....

Start knocking on doors buddy --- your sheetmetal skills will come in real handy for putting patches on semi trailers for $13 an hour. How many weeks vacation do you have a year? No matter, how does one sound to ya?

Note: please disregard this message if you are a high seniority IAM Member who thinks it can never happen to you.

Imamec,itsmyfault:

Take another close look at the economy. Consolidated Freightways announced filing bankruptcy today, and is ceasing operations. 15,500 employees now out of work. I am sure those diesel truck mechanics will be in the pecking order ahead of you for many jobs, since they have actually worked on trucks recently.

Yes, you are correct, the mechanic's life is finished, time to follow the elephants home and die.

Get about 10 years experience rebuilding transmissions and I will hire you tomorrow! Well, in at least ten years I will hire you.

"Doom, despair, and agony on me,deep dark depression, excessive misery,if it were'nt for bad luck,I'd have no luck at all,,, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH,! Soutwest is hiring, Jetblue is hiring, How do I know this ?,, Guys that I used to work with just got hired on !!! Some of you need to improve your "scare tactic" technique..It aint workin. Hey autofixer,, "Well I took off my hat, and said imagine that !!, ME working for YOU ! [:p]

I think this reality check is a little too late...
should have been preaching this 3 months ago..even then I doubt anything would have change.

Its just destiny or maybe fate:a lot of greed, alot of pride and its goes back before sept 11 ..it goes back to 1997/98 when the duo you all hate told you they were losing passengers and needed RJ's but the pilots would not relax their precious scope.. hmmmph look where we are now..

Now U is shrinking at an enormous rate...I am hoping I can keep my job at least to the end of the year..

I am optimistic that U makes it through BK but at this point the glass is half empty and I am just waiting

Yes! My point exactly. USAirWays has run down the spirit of so many people they could be a national cult training center. God help this country if we ever go to war with this kind of attitude, we would be defeated before the first shot was fired, might as well just eviscerate ourselves before U does. Give me a break, WAKE UP, this is called LIFE and sometimes it's just isn't easy street!!! Guess your mommies never told you this.
