Well today is launch day for the new handheld credit card readers on all US Airways flights. Are things running smoothly? Curious how things are going so far.

i am helping out with it today. working phx-clt-mco. we will see how it goes.

All I can say, if it was set up by US' IT department......beware.

In all seriousness, however, I do hope it works. Other carriers use it regularly with no problems--many no longer accept cash as a matter of fact.

It's a shame that the only improvements this company can seem to make are those that enhance the nickel-and-diming of its customers.......<sigh>

This may actually work in the customers favor. Since the info is stored and then transferred once on the ground, if it works as good as BUSY BUSY our current computer BUSY BUSY BUSY system then TIMEOUT the info might not transfer ACO HOST LINK DOWN and they will get away with not having DOCUMENT MUST BE ENTERED MANUALLY, DOCUMENT ALREADY IN ACO, DOCUMENT MUST BE ENTERED MANUALLY to pay!!!

Well said.

What US Airways fails to grasp is any aspect of a value proposition.

Honestly if US Airways had:

Top 3 On Time Performance year in year out

Top 5 fewest lost bags year in year out

Fewest Consumer Complaints

Rationalized Fare structure

Then the airline could perhaps charge a premium for it's product and get it. How do we know this? Answer is simple. Check out WN. WN is only the cheapest fare about 26% of the time according to a survey published in the St Pete Times a few years back. They also lead with the highest percentage of full fare refundable tickets sold.

It's really a simple formula:

Treat the employees fairly
Treat the customers fairly
Deliver on your promises
When you make mistakes ADMIT THEM, Fix them and move on.
Operate your airline efficiently

Do ALL of these things and you won't need hand helds to collect on an endless stream of customer gouging fees because you'll have a product that people will pay for.

We have several posters here that would rather sit in an exit row on WN then be in First on US Airways regardless of price and that is VERY telling.

PB,

Your preaching to the choir. Why not direct it (and maybe you have) to the bumbling management types in Phx.

From reading Piney's posts for several years, I think he has tried that more times than God can count. I suspect he realizes that by complaining to Tempe he is pretty much pi**ing into the wind. What makes matters even worse is that they will always assure the customer that they will address the problem, then promptly ignore it. Customer service like that can only be sustained for only so long. I guess Tempe wants to find out first hand what that length of time is.

And I'm one of those people....

I'd fly WN from SMF to PVD before I'd fly US....and I'll have that chance MANY times in 2009. Unless I'm involuntarily re-routed...or there is some BIZARRE reason why, I won't fly US transcon again.

In order to avoid US on my trip to CDG yesterday....I flew FI, Icelandair of all things...BOS-CDG via KEF. Here's the kicker...it was SO much better...I don't see myself ever doing US again. FI's "Saga Class," which is their version of "business class," was much less expensive, $2,600....and had much, much, MUCH better value.

US wanted...(gasp) $6,000, for the same trip. Now granted, I would have had an industry leading narrow, hard, "almost" lie flat seat in Envoy....but I skipped the hard/narrow...and had a danged comfortable seat with all of the amenities and then some.

In an effort to avoid US...another discovery! Icelandair! Who would have guessed?!?!?

I can't say all is right with the world, however it seems that after Travis left there has been a little more customer focus. To little, To late?? It's NEVER to late to do the right thing. Let's hope that 2009 is Tempe's Year of Enlightenment

Travis took his last name literally.

Actually, (and I'm probably wrong) but I think Piney posts here specifically so the fleas at the sandcastle will read it (or at least the worker fleas who report up to the big fleas), and maybe they will see enough of us complaining and consider changing their ways... It seems as if the US upper management is plagued with narcissistic and arrogant personalities, and nothing effects this personality type more than seeing people disagree with what they KNOW (in their own minds) is right.

So narcissism = paranoia and that means that it is probably someone's job to log into this forum every day and report back to the king of the sandcastle - anything that could be damaging to the ego of those who make decisions for the most efficient and customer friendly carrier in the US.

With the charging for beverages - my suggestion would be not charging anyone with status, silver or higher. In order to get a free drink, you must show your card or your ticket stub that shows your elite status. In order to SELL VALUE to the rest of the passengers, the FA's would have to announce how to get a dividend miles card, and show the BENEFITS of being a good customer.

This would an example of how a "perceived" negative could be turned into a positive, and people who had to pay would associate this as "loyalty = reward".

I can understand why FFs have issues with US, but I'm not sure why someone would really prefer to fly WN transcon is an exit row as opposed to flying US first-class transcon. To me that sounds a little harsh but to each their own.

Also, just to clarify some things and to respond to vantheman63 -- if you had flown US to CDG, it would have been on an A-330. There are only 6 lie-flat "narrow, hard" seats in Envoy (and they do lie flat). I'm sure you could have chose our other Envoy seats which are wider, softer but are not totally lie-flat. I think you would have been just as comfortable on US. But I see your point on the price difference.

gettin back to the hand helds. i coached on phx-clt-mco yesterday and it went fine. these machines are great. . f/a just have to take their time with it. read the manual if you have an issue. iti will tell you exactly what to do to trouble shoot. i am going to mad tonight to help out on that flt. that should be interesting but i am sure it will be fine.
