Independece Air-chapter 11

FLYi filed for Ch. 11, whoever said they were giving up gates? While it is likely for FLYi to return aircraft, cancel a few routes, and possibly give back gates in some airports, no mention of what they really plan to do has been announced.

I've seen nothing on them dropping CLT so the poster is being purely speculative on what he wants FLYi to do and has nothing to back himself up that FLYi will drop CLT in the near future. And then he is being even more speculative suggesting that WN will pick up the gate. While i'm sure WN would love to land in CLT, with the limited gates, there is little expansion room. With them expanding in DEN, frequently adding flts at MDW and likely to get a few more gates in PHL over the coming months, they have other things on their hands

   Yes, another chance for SOUTHTRASH to ruin another part of the country. CLT will be "free to fly trash around the country".. Go back to LOVE field where u belong!!!!
You know, I think I am begining to see the strategy of US at BWI and in California...you simply didn't want to fly "trash" and should that "trash" have tried to sample the competition, he or she was made to feel unwelcome. It's a shame too, because much of that trash wears Armani....especially flying out of DAL.

Didn't HP buy US? I know that HP has a very upscale clientle! hahaha! Oh and who can forget about the beloved METROJET! First Class all the way if i remember correctly! HAHA!

This leads to the big question: If Southwest has the airline formula figured out, why is SW management in Dallas afraid to expand service in Detroit, and seriusly compete against Northwest?

Easy. Because sometimes having it all figured out means knowing when to pick your battles.

FLYi did say they were putting themselves up for auction to the highest bidder. I don't think anyone will bid for the whole -- they may get bids for parts of FLYi (A319, Dulles terminal, etc.) Yes, they didn't say they're giving up gates. I think its a safe bet to assume more aircraft will get parked (hence routes given up a gates freed up) and almost as safe to assume that there won't be a FLYi as we know it in a month or two.

From the official announcement:
The company also announced it will request court approval to engage in a formal court-supervised auction process to seek outside investor(s) or purchaser(s) it needs to continue its operations. If the process is successful, it is expected to be concluded within the next sixty days. Those who have expressed interest during previous discussions, as well as new parties, will be invited to present their bids. Bidders will be permitted to demonstrate their interest in investing in the company, or to bid on all or portions of the company’s assets. The company currently anticipates that it has the financial resources to fund its obligations—including the payment of employee wages and benefits—during the process.

Southwest doesn't seem to be worried about challenging USAir and American in Charlotte and Dallas, but they sure have avoided taking any serious shots at Northwest. The 18 weekday departures in Detroit has not increased in years, there are no departures which fly east, and there definately isn't any desire to increase service from Detroit while the number of departures from Midway, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh have at least doubled. This leads to the big question: If Southwest has the airline formula figured out, why is SW management in Dallas afraid to expand service in Detroit, and seriusly compete against Northwest?

I wonder if at least some of the reason is still payback for the city of Detroit refusing to modernize and expand Detroit City Airport, and improve the access to same, the way that Herb wanted them to when WN flew into DET in the late 80s/early90s?

Using that logic, DTW still has about 12 years before they get any more service.
It took 20 to "forgive" Denver. :D :D

Before anyone else goes into "oh, yeah...!!!" mode, the original agreement to serve DET included improvements that the city reneged on. I did like the 'breakfast pizza' on a.m. trips, though.

This is the perfect set up for didn't I see your mama on one of our flights? I won't go there though.

Instead get ready for us, because talking "Trash" pays nothing, and is "Crass".

Our "Trash" as you put it, pays in cold hard "Cash", so go head an "Bash" we'll keep counting our "Stash". I'd keep writing but I gotta "Dash".

ha! isn't that the truth KC! look at what happend at PIT and pHL. WN DID 'jack' to US there!
unlike Pit Charlotte loves Us Airways and supports there hometown airline. Unlike Pit where they just bend them over. Well Phl there is enough trash there to support your trash airline.

Once again, my "trash" money is gladly accepted on this "trash" airline. FWIW, this "trash", due to a bit of a burp in a personal relationship, owns two homes in an upper middle class neighborhood, drives two 2005 model cars, and will be taking a "trash" cruise in a week or so. I hate to tell you this, but the travel agent booked this "trash" to fly US on the way down to San Juan. I hope that you don't mind me bespoiling the cabin atmosphere on one of your aircraft. I will try to be on my best behaviour.
