Inauguration Day

So KC, it seems you think things won’t get better. Right? Are you not for securing our border? Drilling for more oil? Less regulation? Less government?
Just saying that the people who thought he was going to lower prices will be disappointed. Will the other stuff make up for that empty promise? The border....surely is a problem. But I know groceries (a word that Turmp acts as if he invented) were a concern. Will the border success make prices go down? We are at historically high levels of oil production today, but you'd never know that. The price of a barrel of oil today is less than what it was in the non pandemic years under Trump. We can drill more, but will it really lower prices? While I am not a fan of the climate change talk, I do appreciate clean air and water. Get rid of the carbon BS but not at the expense of clean air and water. Tariffs wiil make things cost more. The difference will have to be significant to get a company to consider bringing production to the US. And if they do, we aer so used to paying foreign labor rates that it will increase the price of things people buy.

Trump won in large part because people were convinced the economy sucked. I'm not so sure that prices are going to come down, nor am I optimistic that wages will go up. Any additional profits from reduced regulations will not go to paying employees...it will go to shareholders or stock buybacks.

Biden may have actually helped this new administration by pardoning anybody they would want to prosecute. Prosecutions and investigations don't do a damned thing to help Americans. Democrats have shown that, but it seems like Trump is hell bent on continuing that practice with a different target.

Over spending is the biggest cause of inflation. Too much money in circulation devaluing the purchase power of the buck.

Successful, evidence based prosecutions usually win, not tweaking existing law to make the spaghetti stick on the wall.

I think it was under Obama I read many of these countries we get things cheaper from have had to deal with wage growth, reducing their competitiveness. Take it a step further and consider goods of vital interest like drugs and rare earth metals (Greenland). Things have to come back or else. China is in the middle of money issues now.

We need more refining capacity..........period.

Then should Trump have said "refine baby refine"? I mean, we are drilling at a record level. If it's a refining problem, putting more oil in the pipeline (no pun intended) isn't going to help lower the price of gas.

He told his supporters that he is going to solve every one of the nations problems within hours. That will give him 3 years, 364 days for his retribution tour. I don't know what kind of hold he has over his acolytes, but while the told us they voted for him because groceries....that what we call what we eat...were too expensive and he vowed to bring the priced down....but if a pound of hamburger goes from $5 per pound to $7 per pound, they will be thrilled, and go out an buy enough to have a MAGA burger party for their neighborhood. Well...not for those who had Harris signs in their yard.

You're starting to sound like some of those left wing old bitties on X.

that's right...but if the refineries are already running at max capacity, then all the additional "drill baby drill" oil will just be sitting in a pipeline, waiting it's turn. Unless you figure out how to refine at 150%. The refineries aren't just sitting there waiting for more oil to be drilled - they can't handle the oil that we currently drill. And if that's the case, the costs associated with drilling even MORE will be passed on to the consumer in the form of even higher prices.
