Any ideas on initial IAD destinations TBA soon?

I'm thinking 5x/MDW, 1x/LAS, 1x/MCO, 1x/FLL......to start....

Yeah I would love to know when these will be announced.

Hopefully there will be 1x MCI thrown in there.

According to today's Washington Post (business section), the initial Southwest destinations from IAD will be MDW, LAS, MCO and TPA, as mentioned by an "informed source". Then Southwest's IAD service will grow within a few months in a similar fashion to what Southwest did in DEN. Also, the official announcement from the carrier will supposedly come out later this week. I guess we'll soon see if the Post's "source" was correct.

It will be interesting to see what they do at IAD. Lots of competition from B6 and UA, but a huge draw for travelers thirsting for a large variety of low-fare service in the District and Northern Va.

Here's another opportunity for SWA to create non-stop service to an east coast destination from Detroit, but based on past experience we won't make any bets on that. Will we.

Well I see that WN is just now adding BWI-DTW so that's a start for service to the Washington, DC area.

One question though... I see WN has 4 gates at DTW, but only 16 flights. Is that true? Is DTW that underutilized for WN?

wow - 7 MDWs, thats a bit surprising.

I corrctly guessed MCO & TPA with 2 and LAS with 1, but underestimated MDW with 5.

I totally agree. SWA has agressively added new routes and destinations for the past 10 years everywhere except at DTW. So, while SWA has been brash with US Air, UAL, and AA, they have avoided and appeared intimated and afraid to challenge NWA. DTW is the only NWA hub that SWA has a 'small' presence at, with nonstops only to MDW, STL, and BNA.
The rumored new BWI-DTW routes would be the 1st new nonstop destination from DTW in over 10 years. On July 10th, I asked the SWA front counter staff about the possibility of the BWI route. They had not heard anything about it, and then summoned the station manager who told me that he didn't know anything about a DTW-BWI route.
So I ask everyone, is there any truth to DTW-BWI?
But there's no doubt that everyone in SWA management is very intimidated and afraid to compete against NWA. Proof of this is the long history of SWA staying away from NWA territory.
