While we are on the topic of pensions, I have a couple of questions for those that are more financially savy then I am.

The great Dr. Bronner is the head of RSA and is responsible for the tremendous success of turning around their pension fund. Why can't he do the same for US? Would it be possible for him to freeze (rather then terminate) the existing pension plans and become our investment guru? I am not saying that our pensions could be combined with RSA, but couldn't he take over the investment of the pension fund? Even if it meant a short term reduction of benefits until the fund(s) for all employees were fully funded, wouldn't that be better then terminating the plans?

Again, this is just a question.....not sure if it is possible without an additional cash drain on the company.

They do not have a CWA Negotiated Pension, they have no pension article in their contract.

They have a non-union frozen penison plan from 1992 if they were vested, just like every non-union worker who was employed.

Everyone is portraying it as a negotiated pension.

The IAM Fleet Service have a pension in their contract.

Nobody is protraying it as union negotiated pension. This thread is about details of what the company is trying to get and wants from CWA. Someone quoted from an article that quoted union sources saying changes to pension was an item. Get over your union garbage. Call it what you like union negotiated, non-union negotiated, frozen union negotiated frozen non-union negotiated. Who gives a hoot. They still have a pension, who cares if its frozen or not its still a pension, that USairways wants to change and that was what the original quote was about but you want to turn it into a union non-union pissing match.

I was hired before 1992 and I have a pension and benefits mailed me by statement. If the company terminates it because it is underfunded then the Goverment agency picks up the pension payments. That's why the Goverment agency is somewhere around 25 BILLION underfunded!!!

The questions should be these : 1) How is it ethical for our largest stockholder to take away the pilot pensions, and now IAM, AFA, and former frozen plans (turn over to PBGC underfunded) while running the pension fund of Alabama? 2)Why is Dr Bronner good for Alabama, but not good for anyone else?

IMHO the man is a total sleaze. When are you going to understand that he doesn't give a damn about you and me(us)? If he did he would not pit pension plans against each other for his gain!

You're right, 700. It's not in any CWA contract. It was frozen back then, but money is still there. Even tho the monthly payouts are only about $600 to $700 average. Not enuf to live on, but something extra to have. As of last month, my estimated benefit was $720 at age 62, for life.

I resent your above remarks. I don't know you or 700. I don't always like his post and attitude, neither do I always like yours. He apparently at least works for this company. You are an outside poster (don't work for this outfit). *IF* he indeed works in our utility department, it's an honorable job and he is trying to make an honorable wage. Trying to belittle him and his profession is uncalled for. Your remarks, IMO, degrade all who work in this department. Shame on you.
