I have debated about applying for a position with your company but I would like one big question answered.....

Is it true that Jet Blue has not yet started paying for the Air Bus Aircraft that they currently are using...thus, This would definately help your company make a profit at this time....And when Jet Blue starts Paying for it's aircraft...THEN WHAT ?? <_<

That rumor was true. B6 made a deal with Airbus, to defer payments on their first 50 aircraft or so. It was only for 4 years I believe, then they had to start making payments.

Then please enlighten me as to how JetBlue still has less than 50 aircraft and has been operating less than four years... and yet has been making aircraft payments all this time. Check the SEC filings. Care to back up your statements?

I won't call you a liar and a rumormonger, yet. You could just be misinformed. But it's such old, oft-disproved misinformation that either you're not paying attention or deliberately speading falsehood. Which is it?

Sorry wrx, but you are wrong. First off, no airplane on the property is owned or leased from Airbus, secondly, the filings clearly state, the number of airplanes leased and the number owned. Further, it spells out the monthly cost for leased airplanes. It is all there in black and white.

Not sure what is more saddening: That the rumour is still around or that some people do not take the time to do a little research.

WRX- Do you have anything to back that up???? That is the most uneducated statement I have heard in a very long time. Do you actually think that Airbus would build an airline 50 planes and pay for the materials and labor for those 50 planes, and then not get any payments for them for 5 years? I dont think so. Furthermore, many of B6's planes are leased, do you think that the leasing company would let jetblue slide on payments for 5 years too when there are so many other customers who need leases on new planes?
This rumor was started by people who just cant understabd why their airline (AA) is losing so much money and jetblue is making profits, so they come up with a rediculous assumption that Jetblue is getting a free ride.

I never said AA folks are looking for a free ride, I said other airline employees think that B6 is getting a free ride and it just is not true. I seriously doubt that a pilot is the horse, the horse would be david neelman and right from his mouth I and many other employees have heard him say that although we got a volume discount from airbus like any other airline that makes a large order, we pay for our planes just like everyone else.
And for the record, no I am not an x TWA employee. I used to work for Delta and I left Delta on my own to come to Jetblue..

wrx, perhaps he was pulling your leg, perhaps he got tired of this old rumour.

Just look at the filings, they are available online, that should educate you, as to the cost of the "busses". No airplane on the property is owned by or leased from Airbus. A well known lessor has a few.

The rumour got started by a short article in either NY Times or the WSJ. It has now taken on a life of its own and refuses to die, however untrue it is.

I would believe an employee of the company over someone on this BB. The article in the NY Times was what started this big deal. Of this topic, how do you like JB?

I had heard this rumor before I was hired at jetBlue, so I asked Dave Barger directly at our pre-indoc mixer. The company was still private at the time, so it wasn't as easy to prove as it is now. He explained that we've been paying for all our aircraft since day one and that there are no financial tricks, smoke, or mirrors. I'd call that info straight from the horse's mouth (no offense Dave)! Time to put this rumor to DEATH!

I'm not going to offer an opinion on what JetBlue leases or owns. But I would like to say that Airbus has been known to make sweetheart deals to get an edge on the competition. For those of you who remember Eastern Airlines, I would like to offer a little insight on what Airbus did for Eastern. In the mid-70's, Airbus had not broken into the U.S. marker. So, in 1975, thanks to Airbus, a deal was struck to give Eastern 4 A300 B4's for six months "rent-free" to penetrate the U.S. Market. The aircraft served the Eastern market well and Eastern decided to order 35 A300 B4's. I have no problem with Airbus or their planes, but they have been till recently, subsidized by their respective consortium governments. All I'm saying is that don't put it past Airbus to "go the extra mile" to beat the competition. They will surpass Boeing as the premier aircraft manufacturer and they will continue to offer "incentives" to make sure they knock Boeing out of the sky. Offering JetBlue a good deal on their aircraft is another slap in Boeing's face.
