How Do You Feel?

I am curious how Amwest employees feel about this proposed merger. Understandably, it appears the U employees are anxious for this to happen.
Do you view the proposed merger as an enhancement or a hinderance, and why?

I was wondering the same thing. From reading the US board, the excitement of this merger sounds very familiar. (ie: UA and US in 2000.)

Another question... Some at US are repeatedly pointing out that AWA is not buying US. Rather a holding company is being established to purchase both. The implication being that both companies are on equal footing and should be treated equally.

Is this accurate? And, how do the AWA employees feel about that postition?

We at AWA are very concerned that our CEO is on a power trip and he's not putting his employees' welfare very high on his list of priorities. I'd say the majority of us are against the merger because we can't conceive at this point how it could work to our advantage verus us staying alone.

Our COO keeps telling us not to believe everything that's being reported as facts. Our VP Flight Ops (a former OZ/TWA guy) is telling us not to worry too much about the integration. We'll just have to wait and see the details.

IMHO an emplyee's worth is not determined by the financial health of his/her employer but I'm probably in the minority. I support use of ALPA merger policy and similar policies for other unions as appropriate. I strongly suspect opposing union groups will be unable to come to agreements and binding arbitration will be the result. I believe this is a fair process come what may.

EXCELLENT post. THAT is what everyone should be concentrating on. kicking a$$ on Luv and Amr as they want to kick your a$$ out of business.

Isn't it amazing that 767jetz and luv2fly(aka Untied and Southworst) are so interested in AWA and US. I'll bet they do have a lot of concerns. But rather than address their issues, the fact is there will be a NEW airline for them to deal with and the people of AWA and US have the unique opportunity to build a next generation airline. Mr. Parker appears to be the most capable CEO I've seen in a while. As for the enthusiasim, the people at US have carried the airline on our shoulders for years and are enthusiastic about getting down to business, kicking arrogant assxs, and enjoying our careers.

On a personal level...I welcome the future that HP and US are going to make as one.

I also can't wait to see the baffoons at CCY being shown the door....as long as they do it without taking more of what they haven't actually earned when they do leave.

Having dealt with HP for a number of years...if my counterparts there are any indication of what they majority is like? ( and I'll assume they are) I see this merger as nothing but positive.

I think the fears of the merger are being way overstated by the way. Sure some jobs are going to be intergrated..and some losses will take place at certain levels..but for the average employee , due to the lack of overlap in our routes...I see some things being business as usual beyond the name change for the fine folks from PHX

Both airlines have had more than their fare share of beatings over the last 10 years...and it finally looks like progress is being made that will hopefully benefit the masses instead of the select few for a change....Let's roll with that idea until it becomes fact...or is proven wrong? , which I tend to doubt.

Frankly...the HP folks can expect 110% support from this U person...and I challenge one and all regardless of which side of the fence you are on at present to do the same. This maybe both of our last chances to be in this business...so lets make the other side do some suffering for a change together.

Best wishes to one in all at HP.

This is a refreshing post as it feels that many US Airways employees think they are calling the shots (see other posts about how seniority at U will hold over HP and HP employees should like working with U) and it feels that HP employees are not anywhere near as valauable as a U employee. So far, this thread makes me feel that some US Airways employees have an open mind and realize the value of the HP employee too and people as individuals working together for the same cause.

I do not work for HP or U, but am concerned that the climate is that U is calling the shots and HP should just accept it. Who has been profitable here, U or HP? I like both of your companies, but everybody is somebody.

I have read so many posts that the one thing that has kept US running is the employees. Yes most if not all of us have taken it in the shorts, as is the case at UA, but we're still here. The one thing HP will get out of a merger is what everybody else is drooling over, LGA-DCA-BOS-PHL-CLT. And at the front of the line is WN and B6. Well.....too bad. They are out of luck.

And not to mention some very dedicated employees here at US. Yes, most of us have witnessed the demise of PSA and Piedmont, and shake our heads. For once I have some excitment to look forward to. HP management group, relax, leave those in CCY, and run with it. You will have more team players that want to see this work than you can count.

I look forward to working with all of the employees at HP!!

Have a great week everyone!

Just like "a320av8r" I'am ready to kickbutt--- after having 15 yrs of getting ours kicked and watching SW being made what they are today by U management and unions---one of the big pictures to keep in mind are the survial of AWA management team NOT the losers back East--also dont know how close the AWA ALPA dudes have been watching the goings on of the RC4 crowd within U's disfunctional/fractionized ALPA pilot group they dont want any of these dudes either IMHO---keep the AWA team intact.

Isn't it amazing to know that luv2fly doesn't work for WN? Isn't it amazing that there are some on these boards who can't answer a simple question? And isn't it amazing that your screen name seems sooooo fitting right now?

There is no doubt in my mind that the U employees are a highly motivated group. The proposed merger offers the opportunity to begin again without having to begin again. A HP/U alliance will surely be a more formidable competitor than U would ever be alone. Contrary to what FlyAway has alledged, my question was not intended to insight riot.
That being said, my orginal question was directed at HP employees, and the vast majority of responses appear to be coming from U employees.

Ditto.

FLYAWAY,

Why do you jump to conclusions and get all defensive when someone asks a legitimate question? It sounds like you might be afraid of the answer, and prefer that no one ask any questions. Questioning things is the American way. People have the freedom to ask questions in order to make informed decisions.

Those who do not like questions, are usually the ones who want to hide their motives.

   AMEN! Get back to making a profit, and screwin with LUV..kiss their butts back to TEXAS!!!

WAIT!

Wait until the unions disagree on seniority integration. It is still the sorest of sore spots at AA. I wish you all the best with the merger. But I'm sure the USAIR people still have feelings about their merger with Piedmont.

SKYFLYR69 also lumps AMR with SWA as being the enemy. Do you have any clue on what we gave up at AMR.

The enemy is not another legacy carrier but the Jetblues, Southwest's and AirTrans of the industry.
