Hawaiian Airlines is flying a lot fuller than the big Mainland carriers this winter, logging an 87.7 percent load factor for February.

Hawaiian saw traffic rise 11.8 percent on capacity that rose 8.7 percent, compared to February last year. The fullest of the Mainland legacy carriers in February, Northwest Airlines, flew 81 percent full.

February traffic at a glance:

* Revenue passenger miles: 503.6 million. Year before: 450.3 million.
* Available seat miles: 575.2 million. Year before: 539.2 million.
* Load factor: 87.7 percent. Year before: 83.5 percent.

These figures are for scheduled service. Hawaiian also flew 10.8 million charter miles and if this service is folded in, the airline's load factor was slightly better still.

This is simple. As a "Gold" memeber of America West's FF program, I can say hands down that although I love HP, the service to the islands on Hawaiian is exceptional no matter which cabin you are in. Mark Dunkerly and his team have it right. I frequently avoid HP on the PHX-HNL route and use HA instead. Nice all around and the planes are not weight restricted because of the Pineapple Express winds. I really like the mid-afternoon departure from HNL to PHX. - Thanks Hawaiian.
