Hawaii Service

Can anyone out there tell of any service that is worse than our service to Hawaii.Flt. 432 was delayed 11 hours tonight before cancelling. It seems that the 757's on the west coast are junk and there are air turnbacks or diversions daily.I pity the poor gate agents in PHX and the islands.I see know why it has been called America Worst !

Daily?

Got proof, show me the dox!

I know you want to troll, but pick a topic you have data on.

The A321 can barely make it coast to coast, it does not have the range for PHX-HNL or LAS-HNL.
I stated the Advanced A321, and I mean that sarcastically. 7 1/2 Hours is a long time to make a decision to cancel the flight. How much delay is possible before the crew goes illegal? Aren't the West 757's Ex Eastern's and they were the first ones to. Making them 25 Years old. Planes of that age shouldn't be put on routes where a back up isn't possible. Putting customers up or rerouting them costs money. With fuel so high and the economy taking a crap, maybe it would be wise to hault Hawaii service until the economy improves and the company is better equiped.

There is no such thing as an advanced A321, Airbus does not offer it.

Let me give you a bit of history, when US first ordered the A320 family they had ordered the A321, only to cancel it as it did not have the range for transcons.

Airbus then added some extra fuel tanks eliminating cargo space and then US reordered them, the A321 is a pig of a plane, the 757 outperforms it and has more range and more cargo.

The 757s in the West operation that operate the Hawaii flights are ex-Republic Airlines birds and Boeing delivered to AWA planes. We are phasing out the old Eastern planes that are not ETOPS equipped.

How old are the 767s in the fleet? Aren't some of the 757s flying on the East coast old Eastern birds, too? Are any of those ETOPS and flying TA flights from PHL? Heck, maybe we should ground the ENTIRE Boeing fleet right now on both East and West sides because they are all sooooo ancient. 🙄

US has/had nine EA bird, A/C 600 (old reg#???) was the first 757 into revenue service by EA.

The first 767 is from 1987 and the last was built in in 11/90.

The West Ops has 7 ETOPS Aircrat and One is used as a spare, that is an expensive proposition and is done on the customers behalf.

7 1/2 Hours is a long time to make a decision to cancel the flight.

It wasn't like the flight just sat for 7.5 hours and then cancel, several attempts were made to get it out but it was just a series of unfortunate events.

Skd departure was 1059
Departed at 12noon
Air return about 1 hr 15 min later
Pulled into the gate at 1320
Gave out $10 meal vouchers to pax as they came off a/c
Found new a/c at hanger to replace it with, (tail 908)
Pilots timed out, called new ones
Passed out bottled water and snack packs at gate
Pilots arrive at new gate at 1550
A/C comes over from hanger 20 min later
Flight re-boards on new a/c
MX issue comes up after all pax boarded during flight deck pre-flight check list
Capt would like to MEL issue and take flt out, but policy won't allow MELs on ETOPS flt
Find third a/c that can take out flt but it is enroute from CUN and wont arrive till 2055
FAs time out - tried finding reserves to replace with but all have been used up
Flight cancels at 1830

Everyone did everything they could to get the flight out, sadly it just was one of those things where we fixed one problem and then another pops up. Passengers were pretty calm and understanding with the agents knowing they weren't the ones responsible for all the issues save for the typical few. A few pax even went out of their way to tell agents how well the were taking it all.

All airlines have operational spares, that is they way they do business.

Amen... May the gods listen and may Boeing restart the 757 line... So say we all! (Battlestar Galactica reference there)

True, but tail 908 was today's spare and an issue was found with it during pre-flight 🙁

That's why it became the spare...so MX can ignore the issue until it becomes an issue 😉

I'm sorry to hear awa...it's hard sometimes BUT I am glad the passengers understood about the situation I'm sure YOU kept them well informed at the Gate unlike *coughs* some other agents.

My fault there, me was thinking about the new 737-900. 😛h34r:

Oh good grief - US doesn't do anything on the customers behalf - this Mgt. group could care less about the customer. What Kool Aid did you drink?
